You’ll find lots of Halloween clearance items for sale, generally starting either just before, or the day after the holiday. Virtually every store you can imagine will be taking part in the sales this year, just as they do every other year. There are some really good items you can find when you shop at these events, whether you need merchandise for next year, or to use for an alternative use, like costumes for a play. In this article, I’d like to share the items which are normally put up at steep, clearance discounts, generally starting on November 1st and ending when the bulk of the merchandise is sold out. It's a really great time to shop and find bargains.
Common After Halloween Clearance Merchandise
The list below represents some of the best bargains you’ll find after October 31st when shopping for deals. While there will be some other types of merchandise available, these are just a few of the items you will normally find at the best discounted, cheap prices. As always though, you should take your time to shop around and find the best deals possible, so you never pay too much.
Costumes: My personal suggestion would be to buy up at least one size and avoid anything trendy, sticking instead with the classics. The latest movie character, for example, isn’t likely to be very popular the following day and will look dated. Classic characters, perhaps Spider Man, Batman, or even firefighters or police, sexy devils, or others, are far more likely to still be around the following day. When you do it this way, you will save a lot of money on your purchase and be able to use the Halloween costume the following year, with it still in style.
Candy: This is probably the best deal you will find. While you probably shouldn’t store the candy for an entire year, since it could become expired and make you or someone else sick, you can use it to snack on, use it for Christmas, or just take it to the office. Many of the packages of Halloween candy will only be marked with something denoting the holiday on the outside packaging, not on the actual candy packaging inside. So, when you remove it from the bag it’s all held in, nobody will even know the difference. It’s a good way to save a lot of money on your cheap holiday candy needs, all at clearance pricing.
Toy Weapons/Props: These work great as a play toys for kids and for props in school plays and things of that nature. You’ll notice many of the toys are trinkets, but some pretty cool toy swords and weapons can also be found for kids. If you are looking for a good deal on basic toys and trinkets, after Halloween clearance sales are a great time and place to look for big time discounts. You generally won’t find these items in the toy department; they will generally be located in the seasonal section. Be sure to check out that area first for the bargains you are shopping to find.
Seasonal Bowls and Housewares: Holiday candy bowls will be clearance priced at most retail stores and through online sellers. You will be able to save them for the following year. Best of all, some are simply colored orange or black, without any real designs or writing on them which denote Halloween, so they can often serve double duty for the autumn season or Thanksgiving. When you can find merchandise like this, it’s generally a much better deal, since it can be used for a much longer period of time each year and for multiple events and seasons. Clearly, this would represent a very good bargain.
Decorations: While they really serve no useful purpose during any month other than October, you can find them for a great price when you shop at day after Halloween clearance sales events. Even though you will have to store them for the following year, you can pull them out and use them again for many years to come and get them at bargain pricing. Not all sales items have to be cheap Halloween costumes. You’ll find ghosts, superhero characters, scarecrows, and devils, along with traditional happy Halloween signs and artwork.
When to Shop for After Halloween Clearance Sales
In general, the discounts begin on November 1st, but they generally don’t end until all the merchandise is gone. Few stores these days pack up the merchandise and store it for the following year. For this reason, you might be able to get a much better deal if you hold off for a few days, or even a week or two after the holiday. Of course, there is some risk with something like this, since the items can sell out before you get around to buying them, but if there are still some left, the discounts can be much better.
How Much Can You Save?
The benchmark for day after Halloween clearance sales is 50% off, but there are some stores which offer 70% off right way, to unload the leftover merchandise. Most stores increase the discount range by about 10% each week, until all merchandise is sold out. They all want the merchandise gone before the day after Thanksgiving, when they need all the room they can for their seasonal Christmas items. If you hold off into November, you might save as much as 90% off the original price or more. It’s a risk, but it can also be a great way to save a lot of money on your purchase.
Best Places to Shop after Halloween
Just about any department store is a good place to look, especially at big box retailers. Stores like Kmart, WalMart, Target, and others always have good discounts. Online retailers are also a great place to look for bargains, so be sure to check out Amazon and other online sellers for deals with after Halloween clearance sales.
