Hog For Birthday
Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Low ($6,999)

The Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Low is not only the lowest cost Sportster model but is also the lowest cost of all of the Harley Davidson motorcycles. The Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Low starts at $6,999 for the motorcycle in black. If you want one of the two color options then you will have to pay an extra $290.00. The Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Low is a great motorcycle for first time riders as well as women and shorter riders. The Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Low can also be a fun bike for tall riders with a little customization. Add some forward controls and some Progressive shocks and the Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Low can be fitted to even the biggest and tallest of motorcycle riders.

Harley Davidson Sportster Iron 883($7,999)

The Harley Davidson Sportster Iron 883 has proven too be a very popular motorcycle for riders of all ages. The Harley Davidson Sportster Iron 883 is chopped, bobbed, and sports little to no chrome. The length of the Harley Davidson Sportster Iron 883 is around 3 inches shorted then the stock 883 Low. If you want a bike that is nicely priced and not decked out in chrome then the Harley Davidson Sportster Iron 883 may be the bike for you. After you buy the Harley Davidson Sportster Iron 883 you will want to upgrade the rear shocks to some Progressive shocks. It would also look sweet if you swapped out the chrome exhaust pipes for some flat black exhaust pipes.

Harley Davidson Sportster Nightster ($9,999)

The Harley Davidson Sportster Nightster has the 1200 CC Evolution engine. The 1200 CC engine is obviously faster than the 883 bikes above but you can take any 883 Sportster and have then engine bore out to get the same performance of a 1200 CC engine.

The Harley Davidson Sportster Nightster comes with laced wheels and mid mounted controls. Even many taller riders prefer mid mounted controls over forward controls. If you prefer mid mounted controls then the Harley Davidson Sportster Nightster is ready for you. The Harley Davidson Sportster Nightster has a lot of black components but not as blacked out as the Harley Davidson Iron 883.

If you like the look of the Harley Davidson Sportster Nightster then take it for a test ride. For the cost of the Harley Davidson Sportster Nightster you can pay an extra $2,000 and get a Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide.

Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 Low ($9,899)

The Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 Low is a proven seller. It is constantly one of Harley Davidsons best selling Sportsters. The Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 Low is a great bike but as with all Harley Davidson Sportster models you will want to upgrade the rear shock to a Progressive. The stocks shocks bottom out easily and with the low height of the Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 Low the bike will bottom out even more. If you are an anorexic midget you will probably not need to replace the rear shocks.

Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 Custom ($9,999)

The Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 Custom is similar to the Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 Low except that it does not have as low a seat height. For most riders the Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 Custom is a better choice then the 1200 Low. For most riders you will get better handling from the 1200 Custom. If you are a short rider and the only way you can place your feet flat when you stop is with a 1200 Low then you that may be the better bike for you but in most situations the 1200 Custom will be a much better handling bike for most situations.

Harley Davidson Sportster Forty-Eight ($10,499)

The newly introduced Harley Davidson Sportster Forty-Eight is the best looking Sportster. In fact many people prefer the look of the Harley Davidson Sportster Forty-Eight over many of it's big twin brothers. The Harley Davidson Sportster Forty-Eight has a fat front end that makes the bike look awesome. The Harley Davidson Sportster Forty-Eight is one great bike but as one major flaw. The fuel tank only holds 2.1 gallons of fuel. Most of the pother Sportsters hold 3.3 gallons of fuel. You can always buy a bigger fuel tank for your Sportster but when you have a Harley Davidson Sportster Forty-Eight you pay extra money for a customized bike. The Harley Davidson Sportster Forty-Eight is still a great bike. It demands attention everywhere it goes.

If you get one of the two color choices other than black it will cost you an additional $290. The only thing that is painted differently appears to be the fuel tank but the bike looks even greater with an orange fuel tank. Of course orange is my favorite color so I am very partial too it.

Harley Davidson Sportster XR1200 ($10,799)

The Harley Davidson Sportster XR1200 is designed for a certain niche of rider and it fits that niche well. The Harley Davidson Sportster XR1200 is not a laid back cruiser. If you like to ride winding roads fast and lean heavily into the corners the Harley Davidson Sportster XR1200 may be the bike for you. It is a Harley Davidson yet is handles similar to a sports bike. The Harley Davidson Sportster XR1200 however is not a sports bike in the traditional sense. It is reminiscent of an old dirt track racer but is designed for pavement. It is a fast bike and is great for the rider looking for a specific style of riding. The Harley Davidson Sportster XR1200 is not a sports bike but it is definitely not a cruiser.

Regardless of which Harley Davidson Sportster you choose you will probably enjoy your new motorcycle tremendously. After your purchase your Harley Davidson Sportster you will want to look at upgrading the rear shocks with Progressive shocks. The 883 Sportster Low is a great entry level motorcycle but if you are planning on buying one of the more expensive Sportsters then you may want to take a look at the Dyna Super Glide. The Dyna Super Glide is a Big Twin Harley with pricing that starts at $11,999. Image Credit: (Flickr/Jack Spellingbacon)
