Harry Potter: How it came to be and much much more
Many years ago, a great novel came out. It was created by a young writer with a vivid imagination. She got the idea while sitting in a crowded train. This author wrote the book and as the years went on, the popularity of this novel expanded and the author wrote more, and it became a series. Maybe you've heard of it...Harry Potter??
The brilliant author of these novels is J.K Rowling. She began with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in America) was published in 1997. The 6 books after that are as follows.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
J.K Rowling was born as Joanne Rowling, and had no middle name. When she was only about 9 years old, her favorite grandmother Kathleen had died. Her initial of 'K', became part of J.K Rowling's new name. Shortly after Rowling's mother had died, she moved to Portugal where she got a teaching job. There, she got married and gave birth to a girl named Jessica. There in Portugal, J.K Rowling began to write Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. She would write anywhere she got the chance to. Sometime in between, her husband left her.
It is rumored that this young writer was poor before her success began. That is not exactly true. J.K Rowling was a single mother of a daughter, but she was not necessarily poor. After a while of writing, Rowling had done it. She had completed the book. She sent the beginning chapters to some agents. One turned her down almost instantaneously. The second agent sent a short letter of reply saying that he would like to see the rest of the great story. This was probably the best words J.K Rowling had ever seen in her life so far.
It took a few years for J.K Rowling and her publisher to find an agent, but they eventually found one in August of 1996. His name was Christopher Columbus.
Harry Potter was many ideas and memories from the author's life, all wrapped in an immense book. The name Potter, came from a boy who lived on her street, with the surname of Potter. Kings Cross station was the name of the station that her parents had met. As a young girl, Rowling dressed up as a wizard. Many aspects from her life are shown in the Harry Potter Series. In fact, Hermione, the brainy friend of Harry, sometimes portrays J.K Rowling herself. Her ideas continued to grow and develop. By 2007, J.K Rowling had 7 amazing books, all surrounding the life of a young and brave wizard boy, named Harry Potter.
J.K Rowling sold film rights in 1999, for the first 4 books to Warner Brothers. However, J.K Rowling was strict with what she wanted. She wanted British actors and wanted the story line to go right along with the book. (Well, as much as possible.) After a search of about 7 months, the lead who plays Harry potter, was found. This young boy, was Daniel Radcliffe. Within the same 7 months, Rupert Grint, who plays the boy of Ronald Weasley, and Emma Watson, who plays Hermione. Together, these three young kids helped create what is known as the biggest movie franchise in the history of the world.
The movies are action packed and show the many themes also shown in the book. The visual effects add so much more as well as the sound affects.
