Have You Heard Of Green Amber Rings?

By | 1 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Have you ever heard of a green amber ring, or is the term something completely new to you? Most people have absolutely no idea that amber could be green at all. There are even those that are unaware of the many wonderfully varied forms that this natural material can take. For those that haven't heard of green amber rings before a few moments ago, this article will try to explain what they are, and why you may be interesting in looking into one.

Amber what you get when tree sap is fossilized over time. Depending on the tree, the climate, and many other factors, there are many different kinds which are possible. Green amber is one variety which is commonly found on trees that are in or close to marshy areas. It's not native to only one place in the world, so it doesn't tend to be too rare or expensive. As gross as it may sound, the lovely green color most likely comes from tiny organic creatures which decayed in the sap as it hardened. The decay process may release some kind of gas, which is why green amber tends to have many bubbles and inclusions within.

Once this material is found, cut, and polished, it is ready to be set in some kind of precious metal band to make it a ring. Green amber rings look absolutely lovely if they are made well. One of the most interesting aspects to them is the way that the swirls of bubbles inside the ring interact with strong light like sunlight. The bubbles disperse the incoming light every which way, and much of it never makes it out of the amber. This makes the material a little warm and makes it almost feel like it's glowing. Rings tend to be exposed to strong sources of light more than any other kind of jewelry, so this can potentially happen all the time.

A green amber ring tends to be set with either white gold or sterling silver. This is because jewelers want the focus of the ring to be the striking material and not the precious metal band. Offsetting the unique hues of green amber with a lightly toned metal accomplishes this perfectly. While yellow gold bands may be available, they certainly do not share in creating this amazing effect.
If you haven't heard of green amber rings before, it's likely that you've never seen them either. This is something you should fix as soon as possible. Looking at a picture online hardly does justice to the unique look and feel of this organic jewelry.
