Having Cable box
If you posses a digital cable, you will most likely will have a cable box to receive signal into your television. These are well known and common with regular cable. It is dependent on what model or type of television you are using for most of the time, the line can go straight into your television set. If you are using a digital cable, your cable box performs more functions than just receiving signal into your television. It can also assist in the use of all the wonderful features that some providers of digital cable offer.
Considering my own instance, I have a cable box from Time Warner Cable. With this cable box, I don't need to use my VCR for recording programs as the cable box is also a DVR which stands for digital video recorder. So it helps me carrying out the recording of all the programs that I love to watch by just a press of the recording button. It is just working like a TiVo, though I have not used one before so I can't be factual about its performance. But what I am aware of about my cable box is that I can select any show from the cable's guide and press the record button, it takes over from there. I can also program or time the recording if I want recording for a long or short period, or even select a single show for recording.
A lot of shows cannot be held by my cable box at the same time but it has sufficient storage area for everything I want. I do record one show every week and also there are movies and other exceptional events that I like to save. The only difficulty am experiencing in this is to save these shows. I have to look for ways of transferring them from the cable box onto a DVD or VHS tape. This is simple to handle, I was told, but currently, I don't have a DVD burner and it is not possible for me to save or record anything on VHS.
There is an option given to me by my cable box known as pay per view. Pay per view movies are offered by my cable box company and with a touch of a button on my remote, I have access to all the movies they are offering. They provide protection for these movies to the extent that you can view them but you cannot save them on the DVR of your cable box. I notice this when my spouse give it a try, but the movie refused to be saved. I suggest it is sensible as it is pay per view. If I am actually interested in a movie, I should wait rather for it to be released on DVD to purchase it or wait for it to be on HBO. I can do the recording on my digital cable box from another movie channel, to have access to it when I want to watch it at some other time.
