Healthy and Strong Hair and Nails
After a recent trip to my hairdressers I inquired as to what kind of shampoo to use for healthier results. My hairdresser told me that for years she has been recommending Folic Acid to her clients. This is an incredibly inexpensive prenatal vitamin. I picked up my generic brand bottle at the local pharmacy, 200 tablets at 1 mg each for approximately $4.99.
I began taking one tablet at night before bed as this is when I prefer to take medications, although according to the directions on the bottle it states 'for best absorption take between meals'. It was roughly 2 1/2 to 3 weeks later that I started noticing a difference, not so much with my hair but with my nails. My whole life I have had brittle and easily breakable nails, causing me to wear them short - I never considered the possibility of growing them out.
I was speaking with a co-worker one day about this noticeable difference in my nails, but that I had no idea why. I began going over all of the ingredients in my daily meal intake, but they have been consistently the same for the past year. I came to the realization that the only thing that I had been doing different was taking this vitamin. Not having any idea that Folic Acid would affect my nails I began doing some research. When I googled Folic Acid I began seeing that it does in fact strengthen your nails, among many other things.
I cannot begin to stress the significant change that this vitamin has made. I have noticed that my hair is looking and feeling so much healthier, but the real improvement is in the length and durability of my nails. They are stronger and look much nicer. I have never had a compliment on my nails, and in the last 3 weeks 2 different people in different situations told me that my nails are very "nice".
Be aware that foliate supplementation can mask vitamin B12 deficiency. Consult a health provider if you are uncertain whether you are taking adequate vitamin B12.
I wanted to share this with the many women and men who struggle with brittle, weak nails, and easily breakable and damaged hair. This one product has made such an amazing difference!
