Heartworm For Dogs

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Heartworm medicine for dogs is given to dogs on a monthly basis to treat against the small larval stages of the adult heartworm. In problem areas, where mosquitoes live year round, this monthly treatment may be given all year to ensure that our pets health does not suffer. It is important to treat monthly with brands like Heartgard or a generic brand. If we allow the adult worms to develop we seriously risk our pets health.

The cycle of the heartworm is quite a complicated one and I will write an article about it soon. At its most basic level the small larval worms need to pass through a mosquito before they are introduced in to a Dog. They are then put in to the dogs body when bitten by the mosquito. The small worms then take up to a year to develop and reach the heart. If they are allowed to get to this stage then your dog will need to be treated by a veterinarian. Heartworm for Dogs should never be allowed to get to this stage if we can possibly avoid it.

The treatment for full grown heartworms is demanding on the dog and it will be allowed very little exercise for weeks after the arsenic based treatment. The monthly treatment will kill any larval worms introduced in the past month so if we treat monthly there is little or no chance of any adult worms ever developing.

Read about heartworm medicine for Dogs and if the larvae carrying mosquito is a problem in your area then treat against it on a monthly basis. It has been proven to be a very effective guard against these major heartworm problems in Dogs.
