Heated Toilet Seat

One of life's small discomforts is sitting on a cold toilet seat. How many times have you awoken at night, then dread getting out of your warm bed and have to sit on a cold plastic toilet seat. You no longer have to. You can now get yourself a heated toilet seat.

A heated toilet seat is great for those too cold nights. Most people in order to save energy turn down their heat at night to save money. Often times a bathroom tends to be cold. Having to heated toilet seat can take the chill out of those trips.

Heated toilet seat come in a variety of colors and shapes and sizes. Despite this variety, they are made to be installed onto your existing toilet. No need to have to replace your whole toilet, just replace the toilet seat. No special tools are needed either. If you check out the reviews online, anyone with a screwdriver and a wrench can easily replace their old cold seat for a new heated one. They can even be installed on a wall hung toilet.


You will typically have to find this seat online. Not many retailers have them in stock, but they can special order them. You can shop at various online stores to find the right one for you.

Besides installation being easy, so is cleaning a heated toilet. Some of these toilet seats are made with quick releases that allow you to remove the seat quickly to clean it and put it right back on with no tools. One company even advertises that you can remove the seat and stick it in the dishwasher! Not sure if I would want to, but you do have that option I suppose.

How does a heated toilet seat work?

In order to have the seat get warm, you will need to plug it into a wall outlet. For safety reasons you should only plug into a GCFI (ground fault interrupter). In fact all bathrooms should have GCGI receptacles. A heated toilet seat does NOT draw much electricity, only about 12 watts of energy, about the same as a 2 night-lights. Most of the seats will come with a long enough cord for you to use. Check your bathroom size before purchasing.

How warm does a heated toilet seat get?

Don't worry about frying on a heated seat. They are designed to get no warmer than 104 degrees. Most of them will warm in the 90 to 95 degree area. Depending on the model you get, you may have several temperatures setting in which to choose from.

Depending on how much you want to spend on a heated seat, you can get several options.

Most seats will come with an anti-microbial surface, but just a good cleaning will take care of that for you. Some other features to look for are a fragrance vent to keep the bathroom smelling nice. Another one is a soft closing seat and lid. These are great. No more slamming of a toilet seat lid.
