Heating During Winter
Now that winter is soon here, and the chill of a passing autumn is being felt around the cooler parts of the world, it's certainly not too early to be thinking about your home's heating needs, and whether or not you have sufficient heating in your house. Another important consideration on many people's minds these days is whether or not they are able to cut back on heating costs at all this winter. Central heating is not cheap to run, and with the gas prices continuing to rise and electricity expensive in many parts of the US, it might be time to consider other options.
One suggestion that some people have been taking to heart is the idea of possibly shutting down their central heating, or at the least turning it down a few degrees. Just turning down your heating system and then using portable heaters when it's really needed can really trim your heating costs. Or, if you don't want to use a portable propane heater but you are intent on saving on fuel costs, you can still turn down your central heating and just dress up a bit warmer. Wear long-sleeved sweaters and socks on your feet, instead of walking around with bare feet wearing only pants and a t-shirt.
If you are thinking of buying and using portable heaters, either to heat the main area of your house, or to heat up single rooms, you could look at some electric radiator heaters. These are usually quite economical to run, and if they have a thermostat you are able to regulate both the heat levels and the amount of electricity you use. You can also buy ones on a timer, that will automatically shut down once you're in bed, or after you leave the house and then come back on again just before you rise in the morning, or before you arrive home at night.
There is a lot of good information on line regarding specific heating, and if you look around you should be able to find the heater that would be right for your situation. Once you have found something you think you like, I'd suggest you visit your local home-appliance store and actually take a look at the model of heater you are interested in. Ask questions and make sure that it really does do all that you need it to, and even try it out. Then, if you actually found a cheaper heater that is the same model online you could go ahead and order online, rather than buying from the store. Often you will find that prices, including shipping, are often quite a bit cheaper when buying something online rather than purchasing directly from an appliance store.
