If you have ever had hemorrhoid problems, you might be aware of the number of treatments available. Knowing which treatmentis best and which ones are the most effective will depend on the individual person and the severity of the problem. For some, adding more fiber to the diet and sitting in a sitz bath might be all the is needed to quickly resolve the pain and irritation. Others might need surgery.

Each person is different and each individual body works differently, as well. Therefore, it is not easy finding a treatment for hemorrhoid which is the best for everybody. Medicines and treatments that work well for one person might not work at all for another. Before we talk about hemorrhoid treatment options, let's first discuss what a hemorrhoid is.

The hemorrhoids are kind of veins of the anus and rectum that are similar to the varicose veins that can be found in legs. If they are not treated properly, they will probably get worse. They can be itchy, irritated and painful. It is even possible that they cause bleeding during the bowel movements. There are many causes for hemorrhoids and they can be internal or external. Thus even the medications are different and work in different ways. Preventing hemorrhoids before they cause problems is always the best method but once they appear, they need to be dealt with. If the case is not too severe, the treatment can be light, like adding some fibers and stool softener to the diet. This simple method alone can resolve the problem. For many people this is considered to be the best treatment since it works and they do not need anything else. But there are lots of other treatments, for example the hydrocortisone cream used externally, special surgery to remove the hemorrhoids, laser treatments which became popular recently and many others. Most health plans cover medical and surgical; treatments but often do not cover over-the-counter remedies and treatments.
