Hemorrhoids Home Treatment
Hemorrhoids are veins that become swollen inside the lower rectum or anus. They are most commonly caused by constipation, obesity, sitting for too long, pregnancy, childbirth, and lifting heavy objects. Although there are many surgical procedures available to get rid of this nasty condition, there are options available for at home hemorrhoids treatment.
Hemorrhoids treatments at home usually consist of creams, gels, foams, or suppositories used in conjunction with stool softeners or fiber supplements. The creams and gels can be applied topically to ease the itching and pain, or they can be applied with a "pile pipe", which is simply a long applicator with holes on the sides and at the end being inserted into the anus to ensure medication is evenly distributed within the anal canal.
This may sound a bit unnerving, but compared to the actual pain you may be feeling, this is nothing. Witch hazel soaked pads can also be used instead of toilet paper or simply to leave sitting on the affected area after a bowel movement, or anytime there is extreme itching or pain. What is very soothing is to put these witch hazels pads in the fridge. That way, when you use them, the chilling relief is enlightening. Unfortunately, these pads will dry out over time if left sitting for too long.
You can also try just dipping a cotton ball in witch hazel and applying to your hemorrhoid. Witch hazel is an excellent recommendation for external hemorrhoid or prolapsed internal hemorrhoid sufferers, especially if they bleed. Witch hazel is renowned for its ability to shrink blood vessels and cause them to contract. A quick fix for internal hemorrhoids that have become displaced from swelling is to simply push the hemorrhoid back into the anal canal. Hemorrhoids left hanging are more prone to becoming clotted.
Another at home treatment option for hemorrhoids is sitting in a warm bath for ten minutes three times a day. This is known as a sitz bath. All you need is 3-4 inches of warm water and your knees raised. If you feel any discomfort, do not continue this easy treatment. Most people experience comfort from these warm soaks, however, some people's symptoms are aggravated by the warmth. The warmth is meant to get blood flowing to the area and help shrink the hemorrhoid.
Other ways to lessen your hemorrhoidal symptoms is to drink plenty of water, eat more fiber, control your salt intake, and exercise. These all help to keep everything inside you circulating properly and working efficiently. Excess salt intake can retain fluids in your circulatory system and lead.
You can also try purchasing extra soft toilet paper or wetting the toilet paper with water prior to wiping. Even with the softest toilet paper, you must remember that the toilet paper is still ultimately paper and can really hurt when you have external or prolapsed internal hemorrhoids and the sensitive nerve endings near your anus are already screaming in agony. You can also try purchasing a doughnut pillow to sit on or buying an attachment for your toilet seat that squirts a small stream of water into your rectum after every bowel movement.
