Highest Paying Jobs
Everyone's asking the same question - where are all the high paying jobs? Many people have been laid off and collecting unemployment for a while. Unfortunately, unemployment may be coming to an end as federal extension benefits expire after a total of 99 weeks (under legislation as of May 2010). That means that many people will either need to settle for a minimum wage job or go back to school to get retrained. If you are ambitious and capable of starting a new career, you will probably want to go into a field that is recession-proof and lucrative. Well, there may be no such thing as a recession-proof career, but the closest thing you'll find to a recession-proof field is health care and education.
This is true, because although every organization (large and small) can fall victim to the bureaucracy and powers that be, the nature of the health care and educational fields will inherently always be in demand. We all know that the nation is broke! Great- but that's not going to stop diseases from making you sick (or anyone else for that matter). Ironically, some people may be even more prone to getting sick when they are stressed about their financial situations because it's been found that stress can lead to a weakened immune system. How wonderfully dreadful is that?
According to the U.S. Census, the population is expected to grow profoundly during the next couple of decades due to many factors – one of which is increased life expectancies. This means, that we will need more doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals to take care of us. In addition, we will need more teachers to educate our children, as well as seasoned professionals who are getting retrained in another field. This all makes sense.
So here is a compilation of 10 jobs to consider:
1. Become a nurse – average pay: $50k
2. Become a nurse practitioner – average pay: $75k-$85k
3. Become an occupational therapy assistant – average pay: $40k
