We are two travel bloggers who started traveling a little of a year ago. We both work from home doing internet stuff and Juergen on top of it gets hired as a photographer for a while.
We used to live in Valencia Spain and on a rather random day we decided to either sell everything or store it and take off to see the world and we can basically work from everywhere as long as we have fast internet ( which is not easy some times).
The concept of our Travel Blog was to become somewhat of a local which gives us enough time to get used of a place, work normal hours and explore and blog tons. So we decided on staying 3 month in one place.
First place we chose was Oviedo, Asturias in the norther part of Spain and here I would like to highlight couple of hikes we did.
The probably more impressive one was the:
7 Hour Ruta del Cares Hike
A breath taking hike through the Asturian mountain. The path used to be a miner train track! Incredible!
The Lakes of Covadonga
To be fair, we drove up to the lake. We had visitors and wished had more time to explore the many hikes around that lake. The view is just breathtaking!
Somiedo Natural Park
We spent a full day hiking up to the lake, creating a loop back to the parking lot. The nature there is incredible and look out for these cute huts!
La Ruta Naviega
A hiking route along the Atlantic coast. You will pass incredible beaches, small fisher towns and if you are hiking there off season you barely will find anyone crossing your path. Too bad the water there is cold all year around and swimming there is only for the brave.
Senda Del Oso
A 22km hike through many tunnels and pass a bear rerserve. And yes there a cute bears waiting for you in that caged in area. The hike is on a paved path, so it's fairly easy. My favorite part of this hike was towards the end, pass a dam. With beautiful mountains surrounding you.
These are just a view hikes you can do in Austurias and it's so much more than just the Camino de Santiago. The winter month are rainy but the rest of the year is very pleasant and besides the summer not overrun by tourists.
