If you need to make a compound angle cut, and really what woodworker hasn't, the only practical way to do it is with a Hitachi C10FSH 10-Inch Sliding Dual Compound Miter Saw with Laser. Sure with a little ingenuity you can come up with a way to make the cut, but it won't be nearly as easy or as accurate as it would be with a compound miter saw. Most woodworkers find a compound miter saw to be one of their most valuable tools and for good reason, not only is the only way to make a compound angle cut, it is one of the most versatile tools in the shop.

In order to cut miters you are going to need a miter saw, that is a saw that allows you to adjust the angle to the left or right. All miter saws allow you to adjust the angle up to 45 degrees but a lot of the better saws like the Hitachi C10FSH will now allow you to go slightly beyond that. They do this because experience has shown that it makes the saw more flexible and reduces the amount of adjusting you need to do.

You will want to take a good look at the miter gauge on any saw that you are considering. The miter gauge should be easy to read and easy to adjust. You will also want to look at the hard stops, they should be a the most common angles and they should be securely locked in. You should also be able to lock in any angle you need between the hard stops, and again this should be secure.

The term compound miter saw leaves a lot of people scratching their heads. A compound miter saw is nothing more than a saw that allows you to cut compound angles. A compound angle is one in which you are cutting a miter and a bevel at the same time. To do this you need to be able to tilt the saw and this is what a compound miter saw allows you to do. All compound miter saws can be tilted in one direction, but a lot of the better saws like the Hitachi C10FSH allow you to tilt them in both directions. This saves a lot of time spent adjusting angles.

The biggest factor in the price of a miter saw is usually it's size, a larger miter saw will cost more than a smaller one of the same quality. The size of a miter saw means the size of it's blade, there are three standard sizes 8,10 or 12 inches. The bigger the saw the larger the piece of wood you can cut. Professionals usually go for the 12 inch version, most hobbyists find 10 inches to be sufficient. An 8 inch miter saw is rarely a good way to save money is they are quite limited in there usefulness.

A sliding compound miter saw will allow you to cut larger pieces of wood than would otherwise be possible. That makes a sliding compound miter saw a very useful tool. Although you will pay extra for this feature it is definitely worth the money, it will significantly increase your saws cutting capacity. You really can't go wrong with the Hitachi C10FSH 10-Inch Sliding Dual Compound Miter Saw with Laser.
