Are home remedies for dandruff really the best choice?
Of course. Because, time and again, the over the counter medicines have proven to be futile in preventing a return of the skin condition. Here, I will list out five of the best home remedies for dandruff that I have found to work, each and every time.
1. A combination of water and apple cider vinegar.
Now this is without doubt the best home remedy for dandruff. Mix up two portions of apple cider vinegar with six portions of water thoroughly. Apply this to your scalp and leave it on for a few hours. I would recommend an overnight application, but it can be done during day time too, if you can find a day off. Approximately after 6 hours, rinse your scalp again with the mix and then wash off with plenty of water. I do mean PLENTY. Apple cider vinegar can have a really bad smell if not properly washed off.
Repeat this process every week for the first month and then switch on to a fortnightly schedule. You may start seeing the results in just couple of weeks itself. This is one of the best home remedies for dandruff.
2. Thyme plant seeds as a cure for dandruff
Boil half a dozen or so dried out thyme seeds in about three glasses of water and let it cool down to a lukewarm temeperature. Apply this to your scalp and wash off with plenty of water after about 30 minutes.
3. Coconut oil - lime fruit juice combination which is a fantastic dandruff cure.
Warm 3 tablespoons of coconut oil in a pan and add a little lemon juice to it, ideally half a lemon would suffice. Apply this mixture on to your scalp whilst it is still warm and keep it on for five minutes. Wash your hair with a daily use shampoo after that. Do not worry if you feel a little tingling sensation during application. Warm oil based treatment is one of the most effective ones for dandruff treatment, as well as for the treatment of all sorts of itchy scalp conditions.
4. Fenugreek seeds to get rid of dandruf
Add a tablespoon of fenugreek seeds to a glass of water. Let the seeds soak in the mixture through the night. Strain the liquid in the morning, and apply it on to your scalp. Ideally, the liquid should be left for around 10 minutes on your scalp and then you amy rinse off with plenty of water or a daily use shampoo if you find it required.
5. The vinegar - lime juice combination as a home remedy for dandruff
Mix some apple cider vinegar and the juice of a lemon in 2:1 ratio and apply liberally on the scalp. After about 10 minutes, rinse it off using an egg based shampoo. Again, you might find this to cause a little tingling, but it's nothing to worry about. If you find it too uncomfortable, rinse off sooner.
There they go. The answer to how to get rid of dandruff is to use more of a holistic approach, including home remedies and try out multiple methods over time. Dandruff being an aggravated physiological condition, it's treatment plans vary greatly from person to person, and the best approach to have a permanent solution to your dandruff problem would be to try out different methods, couple of weeks for a method at a time and stick to the one that provides you with the maximum relief.
