Nausea is probably one of the worst feelings when you are sick. Your head hurts, feels funny and your tummy feels like crap. You feel like you want to vomit but the vomit just won’t come, you can’t walk because you feel dizzy and lying down doesn’t help either.

You do not have to live in this discomfort too long though as there are a number of things you can use to alleviate the feeling that are already lying around your house.

Nausea is a very vague symptom that is triggered by a number of conditions and illnesses. Sometimes all you need to treat the nausea is to treat the condition that is causing it. If you have a “stomach flu” that is causing the nausea the best thing to do is to let it run its course. Get as much bed rest as you can afford. This will allow your body to be better able to fight the infection that is causing the discomfort.

Stay away from alcoholic drinks. Alcohol is very irritating and it will just make your symptoms worse. You should also stay away from fatty foods, beverages that contain caffeine and smoking cigarettes. These are all no-no’s if you are feeling nauseous.

If you feel like you want to vomit you shouldn’t take an antiemetic unless it is prescribed by a doctor. It is best for you to vomit so that you can get rid of whatever is in your stomach causing the bad feeling. Trying to hold back your vomit is dangerous as it can cause the lining of your esophagus to tear.

You should always drink a lot of fluids if you are vomiting in an effort to maintain your electrolyte balance. You can drink water or sports drinks such as Gatorade. If you find that it bothers your stomach you can dilute it with water and drink in small sips.
