The Best Home Security On A Budget

By 0 0

Recently, my fiancé and I have been plagued by a prankster who insists on ringing our doorbell randomly at 6am in the morning. As luck has it, the doorbell ringer is located just a couple of feet away from our bed, creating an annoyingly loud "ding-dong," jolting us out of our hard won slumber. Each time, the prankster always gets away, prompting us to look into a security solution to end the torment.

Like many, we didn't want to spend a lot of money on a security system. Fortunately, there are a variety of options for those who don't want to compromise on quality. Depending on how bare bones you would be willing to go, there is an effective solution that can be obtained for free or less than $10.

D-Link Wireless Network Camera- $34.95
The easiest camera to use with mobile capabilities is the D-Link DCS-930L Wireless Network Camera. You can view the live feed from your mobile device and anywhere the internet is available. The camera features night vision with a reach of up to 15 feet in complete darkness. With 3 easy steps, the system is installed. The D-Link DCS-930L Wireless Network Camera

retails for $119.99, but is currently available with an $85 discount. For the price, flexibility, and installation ease, this was the best security camera overall.

VideoSecu CCTV Outdoor Surveillance- $29.99
When you need a camera that functions well both night and day, you can depend on VideoSecu's CCTV Outdoor Surveillance. This bullet style camera boasts Infared LEDs with sensors that see in total darkness. During the day, the CCTV captures pictures in color and a clear black and white during the evening. As an additional deterrent to would be thieves, a bonus security decal is included with purchase. Normally priced at $99.99, you can save $70 on a VideoSecu CCTV Outdoor Security Camera

by purchasing through Amazon. This was the best security camera in regards to price and quality. The only downside is that the camera must be mounted and as such, it is more difficult to install.

For those who want bare bones surveillance and security, you can create your own system for free or insanely cheap.

Presence- FREE
For security surveillance, an app is the way to go. Unfortunately, applications don't have fantastic video or sound, despite what the majority of security apps claim. After all, they are limited to the specs your phone or tablet currently possess. The absolute best app out there is Presence by People Power. It is a relatively new security application, but it blows the rest of them out of the water. Presence records when motion is detected and sends an email alert to the user. This is fantastic for recording pets, children, and of course, burglars. Currently, Presence is only available for Apple devices and it does require a WiFi connection. Android users are currently out of luck. Not one app in Google Play was found to be any good and all of them eventually cost money (after the free trial.)

Ademco Alarm- $0.01 to $4.70
Nothing scares an intruder more than a high pitched alarm. Magnetic sensor alarms are fantastic for arming doors and windows around the home. It is affordable, effective, and simple to install. Ademco Surface Mount Alarms can easily be found online, but on rare occasion, they can be found at your local dollar store. Some magnetic sensor alarms also include decals to further deter intruders.

Forget expensive home security. You can set up an effective perimeter around your home for less than $100. Hopefully, with this information, you will be able to protect your home, no matter your budget.
