Even if you spend top dollars for branded face masks, do you really know what you are putting on your skin?
Study the labels of those fancy products and very often you will discover that they contain harsh products or even harmful chemicals.
A cheaper and healthier solution is to make your own face masks, from natural products and from food, even better if they are organic.
Here are 5 of my favourites natural masks recipes, mix or blend the ingredients together and gently massage it into the skin with clean fingers.
Avoid the eye and lips area. It is better to make a fresh batch every time you want to use the mask, rather than saving any left overs.
Keep the mask on your face and neck for 10 to 20 minutes, afterwards you can simply wash it off with lukewarm water or for a bit of luxury, put a face towel under the hot water, squeeze the water off the towel and press it on your face for a minute, before starting to remove the mask with the washcloth.
Remember to always clean your face and neck before applying the mask, remove any trace of make up or cream to allow the mask to really penetrate your skin.
To avoid staining your clothes, it's better if you wear an old t-shirt, especially if you intend to put on the turmeric mask.
Obviously do not use any ingredients you are allergic to, even if you are not ingesting them, they can still give you an allergy reaction.

Avocado nourishing face mask
Not only one of the healthiest food available in nature, this beautiful fruit contains a lot of minerals and vitamins. Try it on your face for a beautiful hydrated and nourished skin, even down to the deepest layers of the epidermis. Can be used on all types of skin, but it will do wonder for dehydrated and dry skins.
Ingredients: 1/2 ripe avocado, 2 tbs of warm water.
Banana mask for radiant skin
Ripe bananas they are not only useful to make yummy banana cakes, you can surely utilize them to make a a great anti aging and soothing mask. They are rich in vitamins, anti oxidants and minerals. Add some honey for its antibacterial properties and lemon as a natural astringent, you will have a glowing skin in no time.
Ingredients: 1 small ripe banana, 1 tsp of lemon juice, 1 tsp of honey.
Cucumber mask for a cooling effect
Great for any skin types, the cucumber helps to hydrate and soothes the skin and the yoghurt is perfect against acne, pimples and inflammation.
Ingredients: 1/2 peeled cucumber, 1 tbsp of plain yoghurt.
Egg whites mask nourishing and pore tightening
This is a bit of a controversial recipe. Some people love it, others say that it is bad to put raw eggs on your face. It's up to you, if you don't mind the smell and want to give this a go, personally I have been using this mask since I was a little girl, when my mum used to make it for herself. I only ever had positive results, never a side effect. Saying that make sure you only use the white of an egg to create this protein packed mask, the egg yolk could cause your pores to clog more.
Whisk one egg white with a fork or an egg beater, until you get a frothy consistency. Add a couple of teaspoons of lemon juice for its astringent property and apply it all over the face and neck. After washing it off, feel your skin tighter and smoother.
Ingredients: 1 egg white, 1 tbsp of lemon juice.
Turmeric and yoghurt miracle mask
Turmeric is one of those spices with amazing properties. Add it on food, drink it in water and mix it with plain yoghurt for an antioxidants, exfoliant and anti-inflammatory face mask.
Ingredients: 1 tsp of turmeric, 3 tbsp of plain yoghurt.
