Homemade Rat Poison
Now that the weather is turning cold in many parts of our countries, the rats are now making themselves known. This can be a problem especially if you live in the country.
With the number of harmful chemicals that are in rat poisons it is amazing that we as humans haven't become ill from keeping the products in our homes.
There are several homemade rat poison mixtures that you can make yourself. The ingredients in many cases are not harmful until the components are mixed together for the use of poisoning the rats.
One sure method that has been known for many years is a combination of instant potatoes and plaster of paris. With this mixture a little bit goes a long way and you can keep the ingredients readily available in your home with not concerns.
Instant potatoes can be found in most grocery stores from $2.50 a box to around $4.00 a box. Plaster of paris you will find in your nearest craft store or large chain discount store. A box of plaster of paris starts at around $3.50 and up depending on the size box you choose to purchase.
Unlike the many poisons that are on the market, this mixture actually binds up the animal causing them to become constipated, it is a slow death. The animal typically will die within the day of eating the mix.
If you find this to be a solution for your rat problem here is what you will need to do. First off, keep this mixture in a place where your pets will not get at it. It can also make them sick as well and die. Typically placing the mix in a dark corner back of a closet, shed, etc. is the best option. About every day or so until you have gotten rid of the problem, you may have to mix up a fresh batch. It is best to check the mix the following day to check for consistancy. Remember that plaster of paris will dry and harden after a period of time.
The recipe:
1/2 cup of instant potatoes
3 tablespoons plaster of paris
1 cup of water
Mix together then place into an old tuna can.
Be sure to mix in an old bowl and with an old spoon or other item that can be used only for this. Be sure to wash the items outside so that the plaster of paris can dry and harden on the ground. This is a sure way to get rid of rats in your home.
