Homemade Skin Whitening Treatments

When you have a dark patch of skin on your face or body, or spots like freckles, or age spots, you may be looking to lighten your skin, and there are many different homemade treatments that work for skin whitening, although they are mild at best.

One of the most popular homemade skin whitening solutions is lemon juice, lime juice, or anything that has vitamin C in it.

You might also hear people saying that mangoes work, or oranges, although the lemon juice is probably the most effective.

One homemade treatment I heard suggested involved using a mixture of lemon juice and turmeric, which apparently works quite well, although it does leave you with a temporary yellow stain on your face from the turmeric.

Other things that have been proposed are potatoes, tomatoes, and other strange things like that. I'm not sure how effective any of those things are, but the Wikipedia page I read certainly said that vitamin C was effective in having a mild bleaching effect on the skin.

What You Can Expect From Homemade Skin Whitening

You can't really expect these simple fruits to have a really powerful effect on the color of patches or spots on your skin, and it certainly won't make you go white as a board all over.

If you have a specific skin condition that shows up as uneven patches that stick out quite badly such as hypo-pigmentation, (the skin condition that affected Michael Jackson), then you might need to consider more of a medical solution.

There are products on the market containing active ingredients like arbutin, which is a natural source of hydroquinone.

Hydroquinone is found in clinical doses in presription creams prescribed by doctors, and that was what Michael used to bleach his skin white.

He probably used it for longer than the recommended amount of time, which is a few weeks at most, as hydroquinone in a medical strength dose can cause side effects such as the thinning of the skin.

It is important to speak to your doctor, and do research carefully before trying anything stronger than the homemade skin whitening treatments I mentioned at the start.

Also be aware that if you search on You Tube, you may find homemade treatments that are poisonous, containing things like actual bleach, and so it's important to get your skin whitening tips from a reliable source, and know the process inside out before you try something which may be permanent, or harmful.
