Hosta Brother Stefan
General Information
Hosta Brother Stefan is a very beautiful and unique Hosta. Brother Stefan is a hybrid of Hosta King Tut and a seedling of Hosta Mildred Seaver. This is a sun resistant Hosta.
Plant and Leaf Size
This is a large sized Hosta which grows to a height of 22 inches and the clump can get to 40 inches across. The round leaves of this plant are 11 inches long and 10 inches wide.
Leaf Color and Details
The most amazing aspect of Brother Stefan is the coloration of the leaves. The center color is a gold/orange/yellow color while the margins are a medium green. I realize gold/orange/yellow isn't technically a color but that's the color we're dealing with. The color strength of the leaves can vary depending on the amount of sunlight that it receives.
The leaves of Brother Stefan are strongly textured, veined, rippled, and slightly cupped. I guess the leaf shape is trying to keep up with the great leaf color. The thick leaves give this plant some slug resistance.
Flower Details
The flowers of this perennial are white, bloom from early June to early July, and have 25 inch flower stalks. The seed of this plant is viable. Even though the seeds are viable propagation for additional plants of this variety should be done via division as the seeds will not come true to type.
Hosta Brother Stefan is one of the most eye-catching and colorful Hosta varieties available. One of the downfalls to such a unique plant is that it can be a bit hard to come by. Order this one early in the season to ensure there is enough stock to fill your order.
