Hosta Country Mouse
General Information
The second honorable mention on the American Hosta Societies list of best miniature Hostas is Hosta Country Mouse. This is one of the shortest of the minis which means it will fit into even the smallest of areas. It is one of the few white margined minis. Country mouse is a sport of Hosta Bill Dress's Blue.
This plant should not be planted in the sun and needs protection from slugs. The leaves of this plant are flat and just slightly textured.
Plant and Leaf Size
Hosta Country Mouse gets only 3 inches tall and forms a clump that is 8 inches wide. The heart-shaped leaves of this plant are 2 inches long and 2 inches wide.
Leaf and Flower Color
The leaves of Country Mouse are a light blue green with a narrow white margin. The flowers are a pale lavender color and are on 11 inch high flower stalks.
Propagation
Hosta Country Mouse blooms from early June to mid July and the seed is viable. This plant should be propagation via division for an identical plant to the parent. Seed can be sown for experimental breeding but will not come true to type. Hosta plants are easy to divide.
Companion Planting
This Hosta can be grown with any shade plant that enjoys regular watering. Some good companions are Astilbe and Heuchera. This plant should be planted with smaller plants that will not compete too heavily for space.
Hosta Country Mouse is a nice miniature Hosta. It can be grown in almost any shady spot and is small enough to fit into those awkward places where nothing else will fit. It can be grown in containers, along garden paths, and as an edging plant.
