Hosta Cracker Crumbs

By | 2 Comments | Rating: 0

Hosta Cracker Crumbs is ranked #7 on the list of best Hostas for 2010. This is a plant that'll make anyone stop and stare. Cracker Crumbs is one of the brightest and most dramatically colored of all Hosta plants. It is a sport of Hosta Shiny Penny.

Let's get the boring stuff out of the way real quick and then I can gush for awhile about the color of this plant. Cracker Crumbs grows to 6 inches high and forms a clump that is 10 inches wide. The leaves are 4 inches long by 2 inches wide. The oval shaped leaves are shiny, twisted, wavy, and rippled. I guess this plant thought stopping traffic just with its color wasn't enough it also had to make folks dizzy with the leaf qualities.

Hosta Cracker Crumbs has yellow leaves with narrow dark green edges. Now when I say yellow I don't mean ho hum yellow this plant has screaming bright eye watering yellow gold leaves. This plant grows fast so it can be propagated quick and often which I can't imagine anyone not wanting to do. The seeds aren't viable but that doesn't matter as you wouldn't get the same plant from a seed.

Ok enough gushing back to the boring stuff again. The flowers of Cracker Crumbs are the normal boring lavender flowers that many Hostas present. They bloom from mid July to mid August and are held on 16 inch bloom stalks.

This is a shade plant and should not get too much direct sunlight and it is not slug resistant.

Hosta Cracker Crumbs is a very beautiful, bright, and cheerful plant. It will brighten up any shady spot in the garden.
