Hosta Gold Standard Details

Hosta Gold Standard is a large and beautiful Hosta plant. This variety is rated the 9th most popular of all the Hostas that are available. Gold Standard is a sport of Hosta Fortunei Hyacinthina. This is a variegated Hosta plant that has a bright and cheerful look to it in any garden. Gold Standard Hosta can be grown in the sun but it is not slug resistant. Propagate this Hosta by division to increase the number of plants available in the garden.

Plant and Leaf Size
This large Hosta grows to 20 inches high and can get to 50 inches wide once the clump is mature. The leaves are 8 inches long by 5 inches wide.

Leaf Color and Details
Hosta Gold Standard has beautiful variegation. The leaves are a bright creamy yellow and the narrow margins are a medium green. The leaves of Gold Standard are flat and plain except for the strong veining. This gives the clump a simple and elegant appearance.

Flower Color and Details
The flowers of Gold Standard Hosta are your basic boring Hosta flowers. They are lavender and the flower stalks are 40 inches high. The seed is fertile but fussy so using the seed of this plant for breeding is difficult and not really worth the effort.

Planting Hosta Gold Standard

Hosta Gold Standard should be planted in rich soil that has plenty of organic material. The planting hole should be larger than the root ball. Plant Hostas so that the crown of the plant is at the soil level. Planting too deep can cause crown rot problems. Water well and protect it from weather extremes until the plant is established.

Hosta Gold Standard is a great plant for any garden. It is a tough plant with few quirks other than the seed being difficult to work with. It is large and should not be planted in a garden that does not have the space that it requires to form a nice un-crowded clump.

There's over 8,000 varieties. I'm working my way through them but it's taking me awhile to do it.
