Hosta Popo
Quick Facts:
Ranked #5 best miniature Hosta, blue green leaves, shade plant, not slug resistant, lavender flowers, viable seed
Hosta Popo is #5 on the best mini Hosta list for 2010 according to the American Hosta Society. Popo is a beautiful blue green Hosta that has leaves with a strongly upward cupping habit. It forms a very tidy and attractive compact mount of foliage. This Hosta will work equally well in a formal setting or in a casual garden.
This Hosta grows to 8 inches high and forms a mound that is 10 inches in diameter. The leaves are 3.5 inches long by 2.5 inches wide. The oval leaves are shiny and somewhat wavy.
This is a fast growing Hosta plant that grows to maturity quickly and can easily be propagated by division. Division is the only way to divide Hostas and expect to get a duplicate plant of the parent.
The leaves of Hosta Popo are a solid blue green color but somewhat light in color. This isn't a dark or brightly colored plant but it is quite attractive. This perennial shade plant looks best in borders or in a mass planting of Popo Hostas.
This perennial has lavender flowers. The tubular flowers bloom in late June and are held on 10 inch tall bloom stalks. This plant does set viable seed but if you're interested in a plant that looks just like Popo you need to propagate by dividing. The seeds will sprout and grow but you will not get an identical new plant by planting seeds.
Hosta Popo is a beautiful shade plant that can fit into the smallest of gardens. The light blue/green leaves would make a great contrast for plants with brighter colored foliage. Heucheras come to mind when I think of what might look good as a companion for Popo.
