Hotel Palma Real Varadero

By Edited Dec 2, 2016 0 0

The Hotel Palma Real Varadero is a four star all-inclusive hotel located in the midst of the resort city of Varadero, Cuba. Varadero Beach has many hotels to choose from and this is easily one of the better Varadero hotels. The hotel has 422 guest rooms along with most of the standard accommodations and amenities you would expect at any larger tropical resort. The Palma Real lacks nothing major that a visitor could hope for to make their visit to Cuba one to remember.

Standard rooms at the Hotel Palma Real Varadero consist of two single beds, dresser, closet, work desk and a high quality television. Every room at the Hotel Palma Real Varadero comes equipped with its own balcony overlooking the ocean or hotel resort, central air conditioning (that consistently works! - that is something for some Cuban resorts) and satellite television. The hotel was recently renovated, so all of the furnishings look and feel very clean and comfortable with an interior decorating style that is decidedly rustic and Cuban. The balconies are nice and they are furnished with very nice tables and chairs so that guests can sit outside and enjoy the fresh air and view. And the view on the ocean side is fabulous - white beach and glistening blue ocean as far as you can see in both directions.

As an all inclusive resort, all meals at the Hotel Palma Real Varadero are included as part of your vacation package. The hotel offers a variety of dining options ranging from light and informal meals to upscale dining. For more informal fare, consider trying the international buffet at the Flamboyan or a good meal at the on-site restaurant La Piazza. If a more formal meal is called for, the hotel offers quality Asian cuisine at the Tihulam Restaurant and great grilled steak via "La Palma." Be aware that during busier months you are required to make reservations for meals at both of these options so it is best to make a reservation regardless. Both of these restaurants are fine, but I would not call them great. As with many of the all-inclusive Cuban resorts, most of the food is good, but not great, and the Palma Real falls into this category. If you need or want to try something different than what is offered, there are plenty of dining options around Varadero, but since the food is included here, guests tend to take advantage of that fact.

Drinks! Alcoholic beverages are offered at most of the restaurants, but the hotel also has five separate bars available for your convenience. There are three different bars to choose from in the hotel lobby named after Ernest Hemingway's favorite island drinks: Diaquri, El Mojito and Saoko. Beverages are also served at the beach side snack bar and during live shows at the hotels performance venue. However, the hotel is not permitted to serve alcoholic drinks past 12:00 am. The upside is that all drinks are on the house as part of your all-inclusive stay at Hotel Palma Real Varadero. You just need to get those drinks before midnight!

Of course, it is the hotel's proximity to the famous Varadero white sand beach that make this all-inclusive resort one of the premier vacation destinations in Cuba. The beach has been a popular local destination since the 1940's, when Earnest Hemmingway and other famous individuals frequented the Varadero, but the area has really boomed as a international tourist destination within the last decade to make it one of Cuba's most popular beaches. The beach consists of thirteen miles of fine white sand that meets a gentle surf with many different shades of tropical blue. This is one of the prettiest beaches in all of the Caribbean. As one of the largest tourist resorts in the region, visitors to Varadero beach are quickly spreading the reputation of this stretch of the Hicacos Peninsula.

In addition to simply enjoying the beach and amenities of the hotel, there are a wide range of activities available at or near the hotel that offer options to please the whole family. The hotel offers classes that allow couples and families to get a true taste of Cuba itself with lessons ranging from salsa dancing to scuba diving. Other activities include sports, dancing or socializing with fellow guests at the hotel. Of course, if this is your first time in Cuba, you should seriously consider taking an excursion to the nearby historic city of Havana. The staff at the hotel are well equipped to help you book a hired car and everything else you might need for an enjoyable excursion.

There are so many other amenities at the Hotel Palma Real Varadero that you should have no trouble keeping everyone in your party occupied. There are four separate pools at the hotel, including one that is just for the kids. The pools and all of the grounds at the property are clean and well kept. This is an issue at different hotels and resorts in Varadero, but the Palma Real is as clean and well kept as any comparable hotel in the Bahamas.

The hotel offers a wide variety of free educational and recreational activities and lessons. Recreational opportunities right at the hotel include volleyball, aerobics, billiards, water sports and board games. For an added fee, luxurious massages and other spa treatments are available. Other amenities include internet access, currency exchange, car rentals, medical assistance and pretty much everything that you could possibly need to make your stay at hotel a memorable one.

As far as basic logistical information goes, the Hotel Palma Real Varadero offers 24-hour reception with check-ins starting at 3:00 pm and a required check out by 12:00 pm. During the warmer months, many first time visitors to Cuba are overwhelmed by the number of mosquitoes creating a nuisance, so be sure to pack accordingly. The electrical outlets in Cuba are three pronged plugs that run at 220 volts. Visa and Mastercard are accepted by the hotel so long as they were not issued in the United States. For now, citizens of the United States are still not allowed to visit Cuba for tourism. Hopefully that will change soon, but for now the Canadians and Europeans have the Hotel Palma Real Varadero and all of the Varadero hotels to themselves.
