Zebra Cake Recipe - Ingredients
- 5 eggs
- 1 cup - 240 ml olive oil
- 1 cup - 240 ml Sprite
- 2.75 cup - 660 ml - 400 g white flour
- 1 cup - 240 ml - 250 g white sugar
- 2 tablespoons cocoa
- 3 flat teaspoons Polish baking powder or 4 flat teaspoons US baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or 1 tablespoon vanilla sugar
Zebra Cake Recipe - Preparation
Grab two mixing bowls, in one whisk together your eggs and your sugar until mixed. In the other bowl mix sift your flour and mix in your baking powder.
At this point we are going to slowly start adding the other ingredients to the sugar and egg blend. Begin by mixing in 1/4 of each of the other ingredients (flour/baking powder blend, sprite and olive oil). Mix 1/4 of each one at a time and whisk them until they are very well mixed.
Once the all the ingredients are well mixed, seperate this mixture equally into two bowls.
In the first bowl add two tablespoons of plain four and mix in it in. In the other bowl add in your cocoa and mix well.
This is where the striping process comes in! Grab a lined cake tin, (I use one roughly 9 inches wide by 4 inches deep) and pour 2 to 3 tablespoons of the white mixture into the center, which should create a small circle. Nex you are going to want to do the same thing with the dark mixture, then continue rotating back and forth between the two mixtures until all the mix is gone. If you do this right, you should get nice concentric circles with alternating dark and light colors.
Toss this in your oven and bake for 50 minutes at 180 degrees. Poke the cake with a stick to see if it is done. You will know it is done if your stick comes out nice and clean. If there is any uncooked cake mix on it you know the cake needs a few more minutes to cook.
Remove your freshly baked cake from the oven and give it 10 minutes to cool.
