How-To make a ZIP file

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

If you don't know what a zip file is, it is either one or many files that are compressed and contained in one single file. zip files are useful when you want to share a group of files with a friend, or would like to make a file smaller before you email it. After a vacation I tend to zip up all my vacation pictures then post them on a file sharing website, then send the address to all my friends. They can then download the one file, and once the file is on their computer, they can easily unzip the file by double clicking it and selecting which files they would like to save to their computer from the compressed file.

You can create a zip file using Windows XP by following these steps:
1. Right click on your desktop, or in a folder within Windows Explorer
2. Click New, then Compressed (zipped) Folder
3. A zip file/folder will be created and you will be prompted to give it a name
4. Drag and drop any files or folders you would like to place inside this zip file onto your newly created zip file/folder.

Congratulations, you've just created a compressed zip file (or folder depending what you want to call it). Now you know how to package files to make it more convenient to transfer to friends or backup.
