How Does InfoBarrel Work?

Add to del.icio.us

But Wait... How Does it All Work?

InfoBarrel is redefining the way average users participate in online media sites. By contributing their knowledge in the form of media (articles, videos, picture galleries or sound clips) any user can generate an income stream via the Google Adsense program while simultaneously contributing to a community of knowledge hungry individuals.

1. Signup

The first step to participating on Infobarrel is to signup. Fill in the simple form and confirm your email address and you are ready to go. We highly suggest adding a display picture and telling the other users a little bit about you in your account profile.

2. Create Content

If you are a fluent English speaking individual and can create quality unique content, Infobarrel is the place for you. We thrive on content that is original, if you plan on signing up and posting content found elsewhere on the web, this is most likely not the site for you. Quality content gets more attention, and more attention equals more money in your pocket.

3. Earn Money

Every time a piece of your content is published on Infobarrel, you have the opportunity to make money. As a publisher on Infobarrel you are entitled to 75% of all the Google Adsense ad impressions generated by your content. You need a Google Adsense account in order to make money. If you don’t have one, you can signup for a Google Adsense using your InfoBarrel profile URL as your website (ex: http://www.infobarrel.com/Users/myloginname ). Google usually has you setup with 24 hours after applying. For more information on how to get a Google Adsense Publisher ID, checkout this article and this article for setting up a channel so you can track your ads.

4. Participate

View content created by other users, rate it up or down and have conversations or debates around subjects that are important to you.

5. Share

Find something that sparks your interest? Members can email articles to their friends using our handy email function. If you know other people who may want to contribute to Infobarrel in the form of content, refer them with your referrer code found in your account and receive 2% of all the ad impressions generated by the content they create.

Do we enter the adsense publisher ID as 'pub-123345456' or '234345657' It's not really clear.

Hey Lordkhomar,

It is pub-123456789

We ran into a problem for the last couple days with the ads, but resolved the issue yesterday so stats probably weren't showing up even if you had it properly setup. The ads should be back working 100% and showing up in your account hopefully today. We are going to be shifting the rev share to 90%+ over the next week to make up for our mistake.

Hi Seema_Adnani!

First welcome to InfoBarrel, we are glad you've come aboard! To get started check out this page:

http://www.infobarrel.com/Create

This is where you go to write your articles. At this moment there are 4 different templates that you can choose from to help you structure your articles. Each template has a description of what type of topic its ideal for.

Once you have chosen a template you then select a title and can begin writing out your article. We have a text editor that makes functions like bolding, making a link and adding pictures a much simpler process. Once you have finished you then click "Publish" and it will be submitted to our article queue for one of our managers to approve.

You can also save your article as a draft at any time to come back and work on it later. Your drafts can be found in the drop down navigation bar after you log in.

Hope this helps you get started. Good Luck!

@ DearkHero5050
In order to earn money you need to signup for a Google Adsense account over at http://www.google.com/adsense

Once you have been approved you place your Google Adsense publisher ID in your Infobarrel account and you Google Adsense account will automatically be credited.

Google will then pay you when you account is over $100.

Hope that helps!

How many views does it usually take to get to that amount?

admin
Apr 13, 2009 12:00pm

It really depends on the topic.

Certain topics are more valuable in the eyes of advertisers. More general entertainment related content may get a lot more visitors but will earn less than another article with less views.

I use Firefox as my browser and can't copy/paste from the editor box when creating an article. This is a problem as I like to write my articles in Word first then paste them into another text editor so I've always got a copy on my PC in case it crashes in mid-edit (these things happen to me lol!) Is this something that might have a fix in the pipeline?

Its ok, I fixed the problem. The problem came when trying to copy text from the editor as I was typing - an alert box pops up to say that action is not allowed. The alert comes with a link to Mozilla where there is a workaround for this. It means adding infobarrel.com into the profile to allow cut/copy/paste from the editor. Not hard to do in case anyone else has the same problem - just follow the instructions and its fixed.

I wrote my first article for you guys last night and i have to say im impressed by the turnaround time. Less than 12 hours for an article to get approved is excellent, most sites take nearly a week.

One question i have, should we monitor our earnings by creating a new adsense channel for each article or is there an easier way of doing it?

admin
May 11, 2009 2:25pm

Hey Dambrath, thanks for the feedback on our response time!

Depending on how in depth you want to get with your statistics, I would suggest creating an Infobarrel.com channel and then possibly channels for each of your articles. We have been fiddling with a function that would allow preapproved members the ability to actually receive the Google Analytics information for their articles which would help you identify which articles are making you the most money.

I'm having trouble getting the Contact Us form to actually send, so I'll post this here!!!

I'm having trouble publishing articles.
First, they tell me there was an error retrieving my signature - what does that mean?
Second, because of this I don't know if they are being sent for review or not
Third, one article has appeared in the denied folder, but I'm unsure why? I haven't had any feedback. Very confused

Thanks.

I dont' udnerstand why my articles have had so many views yet they do not correlate to the views listed on my adsense page. My adsense page suggests there is much less views associated with my content. Do you guys know what the deal is here?

admin
Aug 24, 2009 2:45pm
0

Hi Brixxyx,

There are a couple reasons for this. Our views number shows the absolute number of views your page has gotten since it has been online. This includes all refreshes and page reloads, visitors that don't have javascript enabled, visitors that don't stick around long enough to have the page fully load and even include visits from search engine crawlers in the count. Whereas Adsense will not always count a view or impression for these activities.

We are working on tying Google Analytics into each article so that the views listed on the page will be much closer to the number reported on your Adsense page.

I hope this answers your question.

Just wanted to let you know how pleased I am with this site. I've been writing for ehow for months and have made absolutely nothing. I just started 2 days ago with you guys and I'm already making money. You also featured one of my articles, thank you very much for that!! I've never thought of myself as a writer and I've been blown away that I've gotten over 500 views on that article you featured. Thanks again. I'm dropping ehow completely and putting my efforts on here.

I don't believe that they can co-exist at two websites, Jan.....I have been contemplating taking all of my articles down off of eHow, and moving them over here in order to satisfy this requirement.....InfoBarrel is MUCH more user friendly, and not stricken with the same glitches that eHow is.....

Does anyone here know how long one would have to wait, after stripping articles off another website, until they can post them here? Thanks!

Hi,

You should be able to post the articles here as soon as they are taken off of the other site. Our approval process is very hands on and we check to see if an article has been removed from the site it was previously on, so we'll know its been taken down as soon as it is submitted to InfoBarrel.

I'm going to post this question again....simply because I would like to begin stripping my articles off of eHow and Squidoo, and bring them over here....if IB requires that articles uploaded here cannot be uploaded anywhere else, then I would rather have them here........other websites could learn ALOT from IB's revenue sharing....if they can integrate charities, that would be great as well....

Does anyone here know how long one would have to wait, after stripping articles off another website, until they can be posted here? Thanks!

Have you had trouble DELETING articles from eHow?....I can't figure out for the life of me how to do it (Perhaps, they meant it to be difficult to remove your article?)....anyway....I had to go article by article and fill each Box in with BLANK....

funny, though, I received an email from eHow staff wondering why I keep publishing articles that just say "BLANK"....needless to say, I have been extremely unhappy with their website platform....I'm generally a nice guy, but, I'm not taking a chance with posting my content there....it's infested with all types of glitches, and they do these 'article sweeps', and I've heard of longterm members loosing upwards of 60+ (it happened to one user...) articles with very little feedback...

...not a chance I'm willing to take...especially when I work so hard at writing articles...

Hi x3! Yes, some of my articles I couldn't get into because of their glitches, but the ones that you can get into to edit, you just click "expanded view" at the top of the editing page. That puts everything on one page so that you can simply scroll down to the button, and click "delete article". You'll have to enter those 'are you a person' letters and maybe check a few things at the bottom, but that's worked quite well in removing the article quickly from their database and Google. (You know how they like to steal away our traffic, anyhow) Hope that goes well for you! It's just a crapshoot as to what article you can actually get in to edit....

Hey SelmaOR.

Once you've uploaded your images you can simply drag them into the article body. I created a video a few months back showing you exactly how to do it.

Thanks, I found that video earlier but the sound is soooo low you really can't make out what is going on...I have finally figured it out. There does seem to be a few glitches with the method, though. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes you think it didn't work, go back in to add photos again and get duplicate photos that show up. Is there a lag time? Do we only see photos once Admin has approved the photos?

admin
Sep 3, 2009 3:02pm

Hi,

There are a few glitches that we are trying to work around and some browsers behave differently than we expect them to, which we are also trying to work around.

There should not be a lag time when uploading images. If it does not appear, then there usually has been an error that should have popped up on your screen. If it doesn't can you email us with the Contact Us form and we will do our best to figure out the issue.

Photos do not need to be approved by an admin before you can see them on your writing page.

There is a large variance between InfoBarrel's statistics and Google Adsense because InfoBarrel's stats are raw data that includes web crawlers (bots), page refreshes, comment posts, incomplete loads, amongst other things. Google's statistics will be slightly more accurate as they crunch the numbers on the raw data and supply you with impressions generated by real live functional human beings.

Hey rpauls6394,

There are two points systems here, one for the monthly contest and one for milestone achievements. The achievement score has no bearing on your earnings, it is there to compare your activity on the site with other members. The monthly contest points are explained in each month's contest as they are not necessarily the same each and every month.

A quick question if I may? Is there a way to preview an article? I've just added an image to an article (the first one I've added)and I have no clue what it will look like.
Thanks for your response.

Hey Infoking,

There is preview function available for all the templates except for blank. One is in the works for that template and should be out shortly. How you see the image in the template should essentially be how it appears on the article.

I had an article here that was not answered and suddenly, strangely disappeared. Where is it and why was it taken off?

Hey Endeliz,

We try to get articles approved within 24 hours but sometimes, when we are backed up or over holidays, it can take a few days. We are workign as fast as possible to get to all the articles in the queue.

Although I am sure the information is somewhere, I do not have a website and fail to qualify for adsense. Therefore, I will receive no pay for my articles. Unless this changes I must use other publishers. Is there any alternative?

Hey Tripe4444,

The only other publisher we offer at this time is Chitika (http://www.chitika.com). Once you sign up for them and add your account ID to your InfoBarrel account you will start showing those ads.

Chitika ads (at the time of this writting) appear on the right hand side of your article, underneath the related articles box. The ads only appear when a user reaches your page via search (ie Google, Yahoo, Bing)

Tripe, eHow won't be around very much longer if it continues with it's way of doing business. I strongly believe that they could learn ALOT from Info Barrel....from their customer service, to earnings transparency, and quality assurance....Info Barrel's alexa.com trends are position it to be one of the foremost leaders in article submission, in the near future...

just watch ;) :)

I am baffled about how to use a font system when writing my article. For example,in one section the font looks like 14 and on the next section about a 10 or 12 font. How do you regulate the size of your letterswhen writing. There is no place identified to do so.

I answered my own question. Rather, Kevin did. If you are using MS Word, paste your article on notepad and, thereafter, paste it on the article format. It works great. Thasnks Kevin
