Floor rugs can do wonders for our home as they can effortlessly transform a space from looking plain to being attractive and visually appealing. One type of rug that never fails to evoke a response from people is the zebra rug. Such a rug can immediately bring the outdoors into your home.

If you are planning to get such a rug you should know that these rugs range from the very affordable to the extremely high-priced. If you are lucky you can even find discount floor rugs with prices that can't be beat. Other than the size, what else makes a certain type of zebra rug more expensive than others? There are three types of rugs that you should know about when you talk about these zebra rugs. Each type has its plus points and that normally is reflected in its price.

The first type of rug is the one made from the real thing. Real zebra skins that have been made into zebra rugs are the most expensive type of rugs in this category. Normally these zebra skin rugs are made from Burchelles zebra which are from the South African Government sponsored culls. These places guarantee that the zebras are not on any endangered lists. There are also many restrictions on importing zebra skins out of Africa, so you need to get your rugs from manufacturers that conduct this importing legally.

These zebra skin rugs are made with the head, ears, eyes, mane and tail. They are normally made by skilled craftsmen and this is one of the reasons why the selling price for these rugs is very high. The size of the rug also contributes to the price. A regular zebra skin rug can be anywhere between 8 feet long and 6 feet wide. That is quite a large rug made out of skin. So if you want an authentic zebra skin for a rug, you need to be ready to pay several thousand dollars for it.

The second type of rug still looks like the real skin in terms of its shape, but the material used to make these zebra rugs are not zebra skin. Instead, other hides and skins are used to produce these rugs. You can find bull and cowhide rugs as well as goat and sheepskin rugs that have been transformed into zebra skin rugs. These are a lot cheaper than the real skin, and each rug can cost about four to five hundred dollars.

The final type of rug is the zebra print rugs, which are made from natural fibers or synthetic materials. This type differs from the second type as it is not made of hide or skin, and it comes in regular rugs shapes; rectangular, square, round and oval. The colors for these rugs can also be other than the usual zebra color combination. You can find these zebra rugs in hand tufted wool, which can be quite expensive still, ranging from a few hundred to a thousand dollars. Or you can consider their machine made synthetic alternatives, like acrylic, nylon and polypropylene. If you want cheap zebra rugs, then this last type of the one you want. You can pay less than a hundred dollars and get a nice zebra accent rug. An 8 x 10 rug can cost anywhere from one to three hundred dollars.

Looking for a zebra rug can be a fun experience. Knowing how much to pay for the rug will better prepare you to make that final decision.
