How To Be Socially Accepted For Who You Are

By Edited Aug 11, 2015 1 0

Before anyone can accept you for the person you are, you have to come to terms with yourself first and accept yourself for who you are. You can't change who you are no matter what you do and no one else is going to respect you and value for who you are unless you value and respect yourself. You shouldn't change for conform to anyone else's standards because more than likely you are doing so for all the wrong reasons. If you do this, then you may find yourself becoming easily influenced and taken advantage of by people for the rest of your life. Don't be afraid to stand up for who you are and do things a little differently. I'm not saying to start a mass rebellion or try to overthrow the entire federal government, but you should accept who you are and live everyday proud of who you are.

You have to be confident with being who you are. If you second guess yourself, then people will pick up on this very quickly and exploit you for it. Let who you are speak for yourself first and foremost. Don't be afraid to stand up for something you believe in. If you are confident, people may not like you, but they sure will respect you. People also tend to gravitate towards people who have a sense of self confidence and those people who don't care what other people think.

Don't try to so hard initially to get people to accept you. If people won't respect you for who you are then cut them out of your life. Trying so hard to gain someone's acceptance will show that person that they can use you and that you are an emotionally weak person. People who don't respect you for the person you are also doesn't respect you enough to see past your different characteristics and attributes and get to know you better. If someone truly cares about you and accepts and respects you, then with time, this will show in the way they speak to you and acts towards you. If this is not the case then so be it. By all means, don't let them change you! Who are they to tell you how to act or how you should carry yourself? Who made them the leading authority on how your personality should be or what your beliefs ought to be?

Lastly, don't try to be something or someone you're not. This is not only annoying, but people will see this in you and will won't take you serious. There's nothing worse than a wolf in sheep's clothing. Just be yourself. Trust me, people will respect you for it and still be friends with you and if not, then they were never really a true friend in the first place anyways. Everyone loves a person who is genuine and never a fraud. Everyone is unique and have different personalities and characteristics for a reason. You just have to find out who you are and discover yourself, then you will have arrived on your journey to self discovery. Don't ever let anyone tell you how to behave or act. Once you reach the age of majority, you are your own person and a responsible adult. Now start acting like one.
