How To Buy a Used iPad
When buying a used iPad, there a few important things to consider. We will take a look at each of these factors in significant detail to help you make an intelligent and worthwhile purchase. Keep in mind that generally you do get what you pay for, but it does pay to shop around and get the most for your money.
One of the obvious factors is the price of the pre-owned iPad. Clearly, a benefit of buying a used iPad is that it is cheaper than a brand new one. However, if you fall for a deal that seems too good to be true, it most certainly is. Due to the very large quantity in which iPads are produced, the price for used iPads is very well defined. Between the unit model (16GB iPad 1 WiFi, 32GB iPad 2 3G, etc.) and the condition, there will be a relatively narrow price range. While this is not to say that deals can not be found, don't expect to see very large ranges for a given model and condition. Buying a used iPad through a website such as Craigslist or other classifieds may give you the opportunity to negotiate over price. The downside to purchasing through these channels is little to no buyer protection (Amazon and eBay guarantee purchases and payments).
Another very important variable to consider when purchasing a used iPad is the condition of the unit. If at all possible, be sure to visually inspect the entire device. Look for any kinds of dents or scratches. While some wear from typical use is to be expected, keep an eye out for anything that would indicate this unit saw severe use (salesperson) or was damaged in some way. If you can physically inspect the iPad, make sure to turn it on and try out some apps. Also make sure that all the physical buttons on the iPad are in good working order. If you are purchasing the iPad from a website such as Amazon, insist upon seeing pictures of the iPad. While this is less desireable than being able to inspect in purchase, buying through established sites such as Amazon do have their benefits as mentioned above.
Buying a used iPad is a wondeful way to begin learning how to take advantages of powerful new features such as iCloud backup and iMessage. Take your time when doing research and do not feel pressured to buy. There are plenty of pre-owned iPads for sale in a variety of different marketplaces. Most important of all, be sure to enjoy your new toy.
