How To Choose A Good Sports Bra

By | May 10, 2011 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Wondering How To Choose A Good Sports Bra? This easy guide should help you find the right sports bra for your body.

Remember, no two people are alike, so simply taking the advice of a well-intentioned friend or relative might not get you the results you want, even if she wears the same bra size that you do. So before spending your hard-earned money, learn how to find the right sports bra for you.

What Makes A Good Sports Bra?

A good sports bra should accomplish two major goals: It should support, but it should also be comfortable to wear. The second one isn't any less important than the first. After all, a roll of duct tape will offer superior support, but it will NOT feel very comfortable, to say the least (ouch!). To get the best bra for your dollar, you'll want to find one that offers an acceptable balance between these two variables.

Let's take a closer look at each of these:

Support

By definition, a sports bra must support your breasts, especially during periods of intense movement. This is accomplished by pressing the bulk of your breast tissue tight against the chest. It sounds simple enough, but you'd be surprised at how much variety is out there. Generally speaking, the cheaper, low-cost sports bras won't measure up well in this department, as the inferior materials and design will result in poor support. Whereas a high-quality sports bra will hold your "ladies" firm regardless of the movement.

When trying one on, check for any type of movement. A good sports bra should eliminate (or at least drastically reduce) up, down, side-to-side and even circular movements.

Comfort

Regardless of if you're an all-pro female athlete looking for the perfect bra for competitions or a regular gal just looking for something to wear around the house, finding a comfortable sports bra isn't just a luxury, it's a necessity. After all, an ill-fitting bra only makes a gal feel miserable, and we don't want that.

Most nice sports bras, like the Fiona Sports Bra By Moving Comfort, are made of a combination of superior materials that are equally as comfortable as they are supportive. And they should offer a fairly wide shoulder strap design (without looking too bulky), which helps alleviate it from digging into your shoulders.

When trying them on, take your time to adjust the shoulder straps and back clasps. A good sports bra should be adjustable at many places, so spend the extra few minutes "dialing it in" for your body. Don't just assume that you can fine tune it once you get home, because it's possible that you'll never find a perfect setting. So make sure it fits like a comfortable glove before making your final purchase.

Find A Sports Bra In Your Size

Many women don't realize that sports bras come in sizes just like any other bra. Don't make the common mistake of thinking that these are a "one size fits all" or a "small, medium, large" operation. Far from it. You wouldn't pick out any other bra like that, would you? Of course not.

For instance, if you are a size 36DD, then look for an appropriately sized sports bra, such as the 36DD Moving Comfort Fiona Sports Bra. Likewise, if you are a 32A, look for a 32A one.
