Leather furniture can look just like new for many years. There really isn't a secret why some leather furniture looks new and some old after 5 years of ownership. If there is a secret it would be to take care of your leather. There are several ways you can go about this and the most important is to know how to clean leather properly. Leather is not like other materials and fabrics. You can not for example take out the fabric from the sofa cushions and wash them. If you own leather furniture then you should have in your possession a leather care pamphlet.

Having such a leather guide is important because the type of leather furniture that you have might require special care. Cleaning leather furniture in general does not require a lot of effort. Simple vacuum the inside the sofa from time to time. You do not want dirt to accumulate. It is also a good idea to use a soft cotton damp cloth with gentle soap on it and wipe the sofa when necessary. A second damp cotton cloth should be used to wipe away the excess soap that might be left on your leather from the first wiping. Use a third soft cotton towel to wipe away the excess fluid that might be left over from the second wiping.

These steps might seem like too much but if you take care of your leather the right it will look like new for years. Soap, water and anything else is not good for leather and this is why it is important to remove any soap and any water that is left on the leather furniture. A good quality leather protector should also be part of your routine. Find out which brand is appropriate for your type of leather. Then simply follow the instructions on the leather protector label. Leather is beautiful but if you want to keep it looking beautiful then you have to take good care of it.
