Stress is a very big problem in society today. People are working insane hours six days a week and constantly have to deal with cranky employees and unreasonable bosses. Even our home lives aren't that relaxing anymore! Between paying the bills and taking the kids to soccer practice, we barely have a chance relax. Luckily for us, there is a ton of great info online these days regarding stress management. Here are 3 things that I like to do to keep sane in an otherwise insane world.

1. Exercise

Nothing gets rid of stress better than exercise. There is something about physical activity that is so "real" and "organic" that it makes you forget all about your problems. I personally prefer running as my exercise. It's simple and doesn't require anything expect your feet and a decent pair of shoes. If you don't really dig the whole jogging thing, never mind! Pick a sport that floats your fancy. Maybe it's Yoga or Pilates. Maybe it's something more high impact like football or hockey. Whatever your choice of exercise is, just make sure that it gets your heart going. This way, you'll be forced to focus on something other than your problems.

2. Meditation

This is kind of the complete opposite of the exercise discussed above. If you're unfamiliar with mediation practices never fear... A lot of people have these notions that mediation is something only god-like figures can accomplish. This is rubbish! You don't need to climb to the top of a mountain or walk across a desert to meditate. Try this simple exercise: Find a nice quiet room in the house. Sit down in a comfortable position and close your eyes. Now focus on all the thoughts that come into your head. Don't judge them! Just watch as they pass. Picture yourself on a pier somewhere, happily waving at all your thoughts and worries as they float down the river in front of you. If your mind starts to wander, just focus on your breathing until the mind is quiet again. Try this on for ten minutes or so then open your eyes. You should feel refreshed and have a slightly new perspective on life. Meditation is a wonderful way to relieve the symptoms of stress.

3. Change What You Eat!

A good way to change how you feel and reduce stress in your life is to change your diet. What we put into our bodies has a big effect on what comes out of our bodes. When you're packing your lunch tomorrow, maybe think about making a few replacements... Take out that chocolate bar and put in a banana. Maybe replace that can of Mountain Dew with a juice box. It may take a week of doing this before you feel a difference in your stress level but it definitely works. Stick with it and let me know how it goes!

So there you have it! Three sure fire ways to better cope with stress.
