How To Design Your Glass Food Containers By Painting Them - And How To Make Them Look Fabulous

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 0

If you own any glass food containers, it could be a good idea to paint them (only on the outside of course) to make them more attractive. A few flicks with a paint brush and you can make a glass bottle or glass jar a lot more visually appealing. Many glass containers (such as bowls) already look very good for serving food in but sometimes a bit of paint could do some good. It can also be a very fun activity, especially if you have any children. You can put a few newspapers underneath the glass that you want them to paint if you're afraid that it will get messy, which it most likely will.

One of the first things that you need to do is to decide what type of paint that you want to use. There is paint that is especially made for glass. With this type of paint, all you have to do is to simply apply the paint and then put the painted glass in the oven. Just make sure to read the instructions so that there is no damage done onto the glass. This paint tends to last a bit longer, especially if you frequently wash and clean the glass. There's also paint that you can spray on if you wish to do so. To make the application of the spray easier, you can cut out shapes and forms in paper or tape and put that onto the outside of the glass (more on this later).

However, you can also go for regular paint, but then you'll have to be a bit more careful when you later clean it. You'll not be able to clean it in the dishwasher.

The first thing that you need to do when it comes to the actual painting is to clean the glass thoroughly. Once that is done, make sure that it's dry and then let the fun begin. You can paint all kinds of patterns and shapes on your glass. Or you can paint more delicate thing such as flowers or water drops. If you plan on storing anything particular on the inside, for example, marmalade inside a glass jar, then you can write marmalade on the outside with each letter in different colors.

Something that might make the painting easier is to cut out different shapes and forms in paper or tape, and then apply that to the outside of the glass container. You can then paint around those shapes and forms and then later on when you're satisfied, simply tear off the tape or paper. You may want to wait with tearing it off until the paint has dried completely.

There's almost no limit to what you can do with a bit of paint and some glass. Let the creativity flow. If you have kids, all the more fun. Painted glass can look great regardless of whether if it's for glass vases used for decoration or glass jars used for storing away food.
