How to Download Any File Faster and Quicker

Download Speeds Overview

If you want to download anything faster on the internet, there are a few things you need to know if order to have the best download speed. It's a common fact that the internet and internet connections are evolving and growing everyday. Between Cable, DSL, and the famous 3G networks, it seems that everything should download faster but yet it doesn't.This may or may not have anything to do with your internet connection. It may be your computer, and it may be the way in which you are trying to download whatever you want the wrong way. So, before you smash your computer from frustration, take a look at some of these tips to make downloading files faster and easier for you than you ever thought possible.

High Speed Internet Connections
Before I begin to go into how to make downloading faster, there are a few simple things to go over. First, you need to be aware of your internet connection speed. If you have a modem and are still using dial up, you will indeed have a slower download speed than most. If you are using DSL or a cable line internet connection, you will surely be able to download files faster. A common problem many seem to have is that they do a high speed internet connection and still aren't seeing results. This problem may occur if you are using a WiFi signal. In that case, you might need to purchase a higher range router for maxium strength WiFi signals.

If you are using a router for your wireless internet signal normaly, you may want to try plugging your laptop or computer directly into the high speed modem and let the download finish first. The direct source and signal of your high speed modem is much more effective than a wireless signal given off by router.

Download Faster By Running Less Programs
Having a powerful computer is great, but sometimes just because we can run all these cool programs at the same time isn't so cool for downloading files on the internet. Running too many software programs at the same time can actually slow down your downloading speed by 40%. try to close all unused programs that may be running at the same.If you still notice your computer and download speeds being slow, try hitting ctrl + alt + del at the same time and go into your task manager. This way you can manually close down programs without much work. You might find that programs were running on your computer that you didn't know about. Just make sure to end tasks and programs that you know what they are. Ending the wrong programs can shut down the computer and your download.

  •     Defragment your computer regularly. Defragmenting your computer should be done about every 1-2 months, depending on how many files you download. This helps rid your computer of junk and helps the entire system to run better.
  •     Clean up hard drive space. There is an option on your computer under accessories and then under system tools that allows you to delete and clean your computer of useless junk files, cache and cookies to help clear up some hard drive space.
  •     Check for viruses and check your firewall. If you are using an anti-virus program, which you should, you are also probably using a firewall. Firewalls are a security system built-in to your anti-virus to protect your internet usage from spyware and malware infections. Sometimes the firewall may be set too high, in which case your downloads will go much slower.
  •     Try to download smaller files, if possible. You will need the size of the file, and that will give you an idea about how long it should take to download that certain file. If the file is too large, you may want to see if you can download a .zip file which reduces and extracts the files into a smaller file that you can download.
