How To Exercise To Reduce Stress

By | 1 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Exercise is a great way to manage stress and anxiety. If you struggle with anxiety issues, and you don't currently exercise, you may want to add some exercise into your current daily routine as a great way to reduce stress.

The first step is to understand why exercise reduces stress. We all experience stress and tension, and sometimes that tension can actually build up not only in our minds, but in our bodies as well. If you feel emotionally and physically tense and tight, exercise can help you get rid of those tense feelings.

Exercise also triggers the release of feel good hormones called endorphins throughout your body. When your body manufactures more endorphins than usual, this is another great way to reduce stress.

When you exercise, you tend to feel significantly better about yourself because you know you are treating your body well. And of course when your self esteem goes up, your stress and anxiety tend to go way down.

So, now that you know some of the ways that exercise can reduce stress and benefit you in numerous other ways as well, what are some of the best forms of exercise to reduce stress and anxiety? Well, any form of that elevates your heart rate (that is, any form of cardio exercise) can also help you to burn calories and reduce stress, and get several other benefits, too. Forms of cardio exercise include running (or jogging), walking, biking, swimming, hiking, taking aerobics classes, etc. (Swimming is a great alternative for reducing stress if you have any trouble with your joints and can't put a lot of pressure on your legs or feet for any reason and therefore need to avoid activities like running.)

Yoga tends to be slower than cardio exercise, but it is great for making you feel centered and calm, reducing stress, building up your strength, balance and flexibility and making you feel great all over.
