By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 0

Moving house is an incredibly stressful and expensive experience. If you don’t do it properly and take precautions things can go wrong. You can choose to do it all on your own or you can hire a moving company to help. Hiring a moving company has plenty of advantages, but how do find a moving company that you can trust with all your precious belongings?

If you are seriously worried about the safety of hiring a moving company to move house for you, then you can do it yourself but if this isn’t an option then here is some helpful advice to help you find the right moving company for you and your home.

The first bit of advice is to step away from the computer. Whilst the internet can be extremely useful for finding contact details of moving companies, you can’t always trust what companies say about themselves on their websites. Remember that anyone can write a really good review about their company and post it on their own website but this doesn’t make it necessarily true. You are less likely to get good results if you hire a company over the internet without meeting them in person first. They may have a glowing reputation on the internet but this does not necessarily make them the right moving company for you.

Instead use the internet or the phone book as a resource to find at least three moving companies in your area. You can even try calling your local real estate agents for some company details. Try to stick to companies that have been in business for at leas ten years as these are likely to know what they are doing.

Once you have the details work on setting up appointments for them to come to your house and do an in-home estimate for you. If they won’t do this then forget about them and find another company that will. Make sure you are asking the right questions in the meeting. You need to know whether the company will doing the actual moving themselves or will they be sub-contracting out the job. If they plan on sub-contracting your move, then move on and find someone who does it themselves. If people are going to be moving all your valuables, you at least want to know who they are!

If you can go and check out there office to make sure the company is who they say they are. Take a look at their storage facilities and the vehicles they have to transport your things.

The quote you receive will play at big part in your final decision but make sure that you are taking into consideration the services that each company has to offer. Added extras like the amount of insurance included or a valuation of your belongings may affect your decision. Always make sure you know what you are signing. Don’t let anyone rush you make sure you read the document thoroughly.

Hiring a good moving company can make the whole moving process a lot easier and eases a lot of the stress. A good company will have all the equipment and know-how to be able to make your move run as smoothly as possible.
