How To Find And Repair A Leak In Your Air Mattress

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Having an air mattress is beneficial in more ways than one. For instance, you can bring it anywhere you go. If you go camping, you can bring a full size air mattress to be comfortable instead of sleeping on the hard ground using a sleeping bag.

If your child goes to a friend's house for a sleepover, you can pack a kids air mattress where your child can sleep. It can also be an extra bed if you have houseguests who will sleep over in your house. An air bed can also be easily deflated and stored neatly inside a closet or cabinet and it will not take up too much space.

That is why you have to take care of it as best as you can because it provides you with so many benefits. If you think there are leaks in your air mattress, you have to repair it as soon as possible. Here are some tips on how to find and repair a leak in your air mattress.

  • The first thing that you should do is to fill the mattress with air. Make sure that it is firm but not bursting for you to easily find leaks. You can spray water with soap all over the mattress and try to step on it. If there are bubbles, it means there is a leak on your mattress. You can also do this in a swimming pool or bathtub, though it is much easier especially if you have a huge air bed like a king air mattress or a queen air bed.
  • Another tip to locate leaks in your air bed is to place your ears close to the mattress. If you hear a hissing sound, it means air is coming out from the mattress. Try to locate the hole by looking at the mattress closely or by gliding your palm or hand a little above the surface of the mattress.
  • You can also use tissue to find leaks in your air mattress. Place a tissue on the surface of the airbed. If there is a hissing sound, there must be a leak on the location of the tissue. Locate the leak and make sure that you mark it with a pen or marker. Make sure that the mark is big enough for you to see. It will be a big waste of time if after all the efforts that you have done to find the leak you cannot locate it again because your marking is too small.
  • Once you have found the leak, you need to repair it, of course, to prevent further damage. You can use different types of strong glue such as Marine Goop or rubber cement. Apply it on the hole or leak. For the rubber cement, you need to use duct tape before you apply it. Most airbeds have repair kits when you initially buy them. It would be better to use such kits because they are really made for such problems in your airbed. Just follow the instructions to properly repair the leaks and holes.
