How To Get Credit Card After Bankruptcy?

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Getting a credit card after bankruptcy may be a bit more difficult than in normal circumstances but it is not impossible. When you file for bankruptcy discharge, your credibility is lost in the eyes of all financial institutions. Your credit score goes for a toss and you will find it very difficult to get any type of credit like home loan, personal loan or even a credit card. However, there are still ways in which you can try and get a credit card after bankruptcy. You just need to look at the right places.

The first and the easiest way to get a credit card after bankruptcy is to get a secured credit card. In this type of card, the bank will not give you any credit. You will need to open an account with the bank, make a deposit of a certain amount and then use that amount as the credit from the bank. Effectively, you are using that card as a debit card but this is a great way to start rebuilding your credit history and reclaim your life after bankruptcy discharge. Even bankrupt people are eligible for these secured credit cards.

Next option is to talk to your credit union. If you have good relationship with your credit union, you should go and explain your situation to them. They may be willing to give you a credit card based on your relationship. If you can get a normal unsecured credit card, it is the best way to rebuild your credit history.

Many times, the banks would come to know very soon that you are bankrupt. They know that you will be looking for credit cards therefore they will automatically start offering you their credit cards. You can accept these offers but make sure to read terms and conditions properly especially the interest rates and fee structure. The interest rates on these cards are pretty high.

Another option is to go with a co-signer while applying for a credit card. If your co-signer has a good credit history, you may get the credit card approved because of him. But make sure that you pay all the dues on time on this credit card. Since your co-signer is equally responsible for this card, you should not break the trust he has shown in you to get you a credit card.

While applying for any credit card, you should make sure that you read the fine print on the application form very carefully. You should not just accept any credit card which comes in your way. The things to note here are the interest rate, application fees and report to credit bureaus. You can easily search for companies on internet while trying to get a credit card after bankruptcy.
