Digital reading is nowadays very popular. Paper books will not dissapear on a short term because of the ebooks and ereaders, but the worldwide demand for ebooks is growing well.

Free-ebooks.net claims to be the internet's #1 online source for free ebook downloads, ebook resources and ebook authors. This website also offers free business-, computer-, engineering- and trade magazines.
On the epubBooks website you can find a huge amount of public domain books, available in the popular epub-format. The segmented their books by genre and authors, making it easier for readers to find the book they are looking for or to discover new books or writers.

The Internet Archive Text Archive contains a wide range of fiction, popular books, children's books, historical texts and academic books. World Public Library
The website of the World Public Library has a Give Away-Page with over 200 of their popular titles that you can download for free.
