So you want to know how to get longer hair and you've been searching for these magical cures and long processes that take hours out of your day. That's not what's going to work.

When it comes to growing your hair longer, it's all a matter of having 3 simple things in mind as you go about your daily hair care routine.

Use A Sulfate Free Shampoo

One of the reasons it's hard for some people to grow their mane longer is because they have a lot of split ends. To make matters worse, they seem to get split ends on a regular basis. When they finally start to gain length, it's time to get a trim. Stylists usually trim anywhere from half an inch to a full inch from the hair depending on how severe things are.

Part of the reason you're experiencing so many split ends is because of your shampoo. If your shampoo lathers, it has sulfates. Sulfate-free shampoos don't have harsh detergents that dry your hair out. In case you weren't aware, dry hair is more prone to splitting and breakage. Sure, your favorite shampoo may have sulfates in it and it may smell really nice, but before you consider keeping it think about what you really want.Would you really choose something that smells better even though it's not as healthy for you?

Breakage is not healthy and neither are split ends. Save yourself the agony and just give up the fruity smelling shampoo for one that doesn't do any damage. The great news is there are plenty of sulfate-free shampoos that will peak your nose's interest.

Use A Heat Protectant

There are plenty of time when you're in a hurry and you need to dry your hair. Since it's going to take too long to let it air dry, you decide to use a blow dryer. There are other times when you want your strands to be extra straight so you use a flat iron.

These two methods of styling are fine, just be sure to use a heat protectant before you start or you can fry your precious locs. Even with heat protectant, it's probably a good idea to minimize heat styling, especially if you have naturally fragile or dry hair. Heat protectants create a barrier between the styling tool and your hair. With less heat damage going on, you're going to be able to keep the hair that's growing on your head instead of finding it on the floor or leaving it in the trash can at an expensive salon.

Hair vitmamins provide the entire body with nutrients from inside and out. Imagine your hair as a garden and the hair vitamins are the fertalizer. A flower (your hair) can't bloom without the proper foods (vitamins).

Be sure to include a supplement that contains folic acid, biotin, silica and MSM. Biotin helps promote softness, shine and strength, silica controls how stretchy your hair is while MSM (short for methylsulfonamethane) controls how long your locs are able to grow before they begin to shed.

It's a good idea to take vitamins with food and take them daily. It will depend on the type of supplement you choose when it comes to how many times you should be taking them each day. Most supplements start showing results after two months but some are known to work as soon as one month.

Get Rid Of Split Ends

hair trim

Trimming the hair every 6 to 8 weeks is going to go a long way. It may seem counter productive, but when you have split ends that are left unattended, it continues to move of the hair shaft. When this happens, you'll have to get a cut because they damage will be too great.

Split end mending products aren't designed to help repair the damage, they're better for prevention. It may help hide the hair damage, but there is no other way to get rid of splitting without introducing them to a pair of scissors.

Don't use regular scissors because they've been dulled from cutting other things around the house. Trimming your hair with household scissors will cause more damage. If you don't have a pair of hair shears then it's best to visit a salon and before you're due for another visit, purchase a pair to keep in your home and opt for giving yourself a trim.

Deep Condition

Deep conditioning on a weekly or monthly basis is going to help your hair keep moisture. Lack of moisture is one of the main causes of split ends and how intense your treatment is will be determined by the texture of your hair.

One way to give yourself a deep conditioning treatment is to wet your hair while you're in the shower and apply your favorite conditioner. To help it penetrate the hair follicle better, cover your hair with a shower cap and leave on until you're ready to get out of the shower. Rinse the conditioner out and style as usual.

Some conditioners in the stores are labeled "deep conditioner". You're not required to apply a shower cap when using this, but it wouldn't hurt to use the deep conditioner the same way you'd use a regular conditioning product.

It is possible to achieve the lengths you desire with the proper care. It's also important to keep in mind that treating your hair gently by not pulling up into a tight ponytail every day and not sleeping in hair pins. When it comes to growing longer hair, less goes a long way. The less damage you do to your strands, the longer it will grow.
