Sore throats are very common yet most people have no clue what it actually is. Well, it's basically an infection caused by the Streptococcus and/or other causes like dust, fine powder or simply dehydration. Although many people consider sore throats to be a minor issue, an infection like that can be quite dangerous to one’s health if you try to sit it out. Sore throats are very common between children between the ages of 5 to 18 years but less common for babies and adults. The bacteria causing a sore throat are known to be contagious meaning that you can catch it from another person if you're not careful. There are quite a few ways to get rid of sore throats and although people pay huge sums of money to that elusive cure, it may be worthwhile to look at other options, such as natural remedies, to get rid of a sore throat.

During the winter season there is an increased chance to get infected with a sore throat. If you are suffering from one right now and you find it rather hard to get rid of it then look no further because these tips on how to get rid of a sore throat will get you started in the right direction. For instance, drinking Chamomile tea mixed with pure honey helps to control the pain of the sore throat and helps to heal faster. When it comes to adults, it is advisable to stop smoking also make sure that you won't be in a room with a lot of smokers. Also, while you must stay hydrated, drinking excessive amounts of cold water is also a no-no as that will only aggravate the problem.

Some professions need to take extra care such as teachers, preachers, musicians and so on. If you come in direct contact with a lot of people you will have an increased chance of getting a sore throat. Preventing is definitely better than healing as they say, and it's true. Getting rid of something is noticeably harder than preventing although that may require more energy.

Another great remedy is to take a glass of boiling water, a spoonful of honey, two spoonfuls of lemon juice and one or two spoonfuls of sugar, let it cool down and drink it. If you do not like sugar in your time you can of course leave it out, for me though, that always does the trick. It is a good idea to drink the mixture every day for a week straight. If you feel that you are getting better, you will be fine by drinking it every other day. It really depends on the severity of the infection, in most cases though, a week is all you need.

Another personal favorite of mine is to use vinegar by taking a large spoon of vinegar and swallow it. Be wary though, you should only take a spoon of vinegar just once a week maximum. Vinegar can upset your stomach so overusing can result to other problems that you really do not want to get right now.

Frequent water gargling is also a good way to get rid of your sore throat, for maximum effectiveness gargle a mixture of warm water and salt. Gargle and swallow, about three times a day should do it. If you are feeling too much pain, you can take pain relievers or lozenges that contain phenol to help kill germs and will help soothe your throat. Only use when absolutely necessary though.

Taking sore throats for granted can cause great discomfort and may eventually lead to total loss of voice which is why you need to be very careful. Make sure you that you consult with a doctor if all these techniques or methods do not work out after a week or so. Sore throats are not to be taking lightly, especially when little children are suffering from one. Children don't really understand what they're going through making it less easy to cope with the situation. If you feel that your child is really suffering, then it's wise to consult a doctor immediately.

Most people take a sore throat lightly and feel that it will just go away on its own. They don't realize that it can prevent you from eating, drinking water and even talking. Your voice is needed in every area of life which is why you need to protect your voice and throat by using natural remedies to help the problem go away. Although some of these tips and tricks answer the question of how to get rid of a sore throat may work for most people, it certainly is no guarantee. Therefore you should be focused on preventing rather than healing so yourself in every part of your life.
