How To Improve English(45473)

Learn how you can improve your english skills and speak fluently

English is a hard language to learn, but it is a rewarding experience. Whether you are moving to an English-speaking country, or your in-laws speak English, or you just want to learn. My girlfriend is from Ukraine and these are all things she did to improve her English, and after lots of hard work and practice, she is now fully fluent in English, and you can be too. Here are five ways you can improve your English.

1. English Classes

One of the best ways you can improve your English is to attend English classes. Take classes at your local community center, school or college. You will have a trained teacher who knows how to teach and will lead you through various methods and exercises to improve.

Another added benefit is that you will have classmates to practice with. The teacher will also be able to correct any mistakes that occur, whether you are mispronouncing a word, or not using correct grammar.

2. Read the Newspaper/Books

Read the newspaper everyday. Most likely, there are a few free english newspapers in your city, or you can go online. Make sure you always have a dictionary, sit down and read every morning. Spend 30 minutes or more going through articles that interest you. At first it will be hard, and maybe annoying if you have to look up lots of words, but it will be worth it. Not only will you improve your english, you will know what is happening in the world.

Another great resource is your public library. You can go to your public library, get a free membership and ask the librarian for lower leveled english books that you can read and understand. Find one that you will enjoy reading, and read. Again, make sure you are understanding everything and have a dictionary close to you.

3. Listen to Movies/Radio/TV/Podcasts

Another great way you can improve your English is to listen to English media. Whether it is a movie, radio, television or a podcast, it will help immensely. The one hard part is that you really have to concentrate. Most people watch TV to relax, but you will have to really concentrate on every single word and try to understand all the meanings. At first it may be hard, but with enough practice, you will be able to sit back and watch any Hollywood movie while understanding everything.

Another option is to watch an English movie with subtitles so you can read and listen at the same time. If you want too, you can watch a movie in your native language with English subtitles as well.

4. Friends

If you have a friend or know people who speak english, talk to them as much as you can. Invite them for coffee, have a conversation and ask them to correct any of your mistakes. Most people will be happy to help and as long as you can take the criticism, this is one of the best ways on how you can improve your English.

In most cities there are groups of people who are trying to learn English too. These people will meetup and all practice together. Check with your library or community centre. There are lots of free resources available for you, if you look.

5. Practice

Learning English is not easy, but it doesn't have to be boring. You don't have to read the whole dictionary and memorize words. You don't have to spend all your time reading boring textbooks. There are other ways you can do it. Like mentioned in this article, find a book that interests you, or a news article that you find interesting. You will have to practice and work hard, but it will seem more fun if you reading about a subject that you are passionate about.

Just talk in English as much as you can, read as much as you can and listen to as much as you can. Don't ever be scared of making mistakes or mispronouncing a word. Most English speakers will understand that you are just trying to learn. Making lots of mistakes is the fastest way you can improve your English.

Good Luck and start right now!
