In a world that increasingly values certain characteristics over others it is important to keep up a high level of self-esteem and remain confident. Your self-esteem is extremely vital to your overall life quality and is definitely worth spending a small amount of time to improve.
Make A List Of What You Don't Like About Yourself
This may seem really negative, but it's not. It flushes your body of negative thoughts once you get them all down on paper and can see the list before you.
You may want to type or write this in a journal and make sure others do not see it. After you finish, delete the file or rip up the piece of paper.
Go Through The List And See What Can Be Changed
There are many items on most people's lists but they really break into 2 categories: what you can change and what you cannot change. Go down through the list and list everything that is changeable by your actions.
A couple of examples: If you are insecure about your weight, consider making time everyday to exercise. If you are insecure about your height, there is nothing you can do other than get expensive surgery. See how the weight issue is solved by you and your actions?
Go through the rest of the list and figure out what you want to change and how you are going to change it. Keep in mind that some goals are very hard to achieve and it is better to join a group of people also trying to accomplish the goal. Plus, you will make some new life long friends.
Come To Accept Yourself As A Non-Perfect Person
This is about the stuff that you cannot change. You have to look at it all on the list and say "there is nothing I can do to change that so I will not let it bother me." Lift the weight that has been on your shoulders to increase your self-esteem to higher levels.
Accepting yourself will be the hardest part of this guide but also the most important.
Learn To Put Internal Critiquing Aside
Internal critiquing is the little voice in your head that tells you that you're not good enough or you will never change. Fight through it and make that voice your motivation. Sometimes talking back to the voice is helpful, but avoid doing it in public so you don't seem to crazy.
Exercise, Good For Body And Mind
I'm a huge proponent of exercise. It helps you body and mind at the same time. You will live longer and have a higher standard of living. There are no negatives.
If you life walking, just walk 30 minutes everyday. Increase the pace slowly until you are fast walking for 30 minutes everyday. Take one day off a week to rest or relax. It's important for your mental health not to overwork exercise as well.
Be Positive And Optimistic
The future is in your hands and you will improve the outcome. Find what you want and make it happen. Be positive with your attitude and give out at least 3 compliments a day. 2 to friends or acquaintances and 1 to a complete stranger.
Being optimistic does not mean being naïve! If you are optimistic and positive then to will start to see results around you. People will be happier to surround you and you will make more friends.
Say "Thank You"
Saying thank you to a compliment than brushing it off is important. You earned that compliment and you deserve to enjoy it.
