How To Install A Roller Door

By | May 14, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Sliding doors are great for any room that does not have the space to accommodate the swing of a door. They are often used in closets and smaller rooms. Instead of swinging in or out, they slide in to a wall or over top of another door beside it. The installation process of a roller door is not that difficult. If all of the steps are followed correctly, you will have a fully functioning door in no time at all.

There are different steps involved depending on where the roller door is going to be installed. If the door is going to be set back into a wall there will be quite a few additional steps and it will not be nearly as easy. I'll start with the basic description of how to install all the different doors and add the door set in the wall or the pocket door explanation near the end.

First, you have to measure the space you intend to put your new sliding door. The size of the space is going to affect which door you purchase so a correct measurement is crucial. Next, you have to go and purchase the door from the location you have decided on.

When installing a roller door the first step is laying down the track. The track is the metal device that the door will slide in. Without the track the door would be unstable and would not work properly. The tracks are usually just screwed down in to the floor.

After the track has been laid down, you have to put the sliding door rollers in the tracks. There are normally at least two on the bottom and occasionally some on top as well. When the rollers have been placed in to their slots, you can mount the door on them with screws. After the door has been attached to the rollers, it is set for you to use. The overall installation is not that difficult if you have the proper tools and the right sized material.

If you want a pocket door there are some additional steps required. The section of the wall the door is going to be slid in to has to be cut away. All of the single studs in the wall have to be cut off and changed to double studs with space for the door to slide in. After the new stud system has been put in place, it is a good idea to install the door and then put the rest of the wall back together. Waiting to put the wall covering back on until after the door is installed will make your life much easier.

Roller doors are very useful for conserving space and pretty simple to install for someone with a few basic tools.
