How To Know Fibromyalgia Symptoms

By Edited Nov 28, 2013 0 0

Fibromyalgia is a debilitating illness affecting the lives of over three and a half million people. Only a doctor can officially diagnose a patient with fibromyalgia. However if you know what the main fibromyalgia symptoms are, and if you are suffering from any of these symptoms, then you can discuss your symptoms with your doctor and work together to determine the appropriate course of treatment for you.

Things You Will Need

A desire to know more about fibromyalgia.

Step 1

The primary, and perhaps best known fibromyalgia symptom, is widespread and often quite profound physical pain. Fibromyalgia is generally considered by many medical professionals to be a form of non-inflammatory arthritis, so it is probably not surprising that pain is the number one fibromyalgia symptom. The big difference between fibromyalgia and other forms of arthritis is that fibromyalgia causes pain in the muscles, tendons and ligaments, rather than in the joints.

Step 2

Fatigue is perhaps the second most prevalent of all fibromyalgia symptoms, with approximately nine out of ten fibromyalgia sufferers experiencing moderate to severe levels of fatigue due to their disease. Of course, the pain that fibromyalgia causes can make sleeping very difficult, no matter how fatigued you may feel, adding insult to injury.

Step 3

Fibromyalgia symptoms may also include severe and chronic headaches. These fibromyalgia headaches may be migraine headaches or tension headaches, or even combination migraine/tension headaches.

If you have any of the symptoms described in this article, please see your doctor as soon as possible. For more information about health topics, you will want to discuss these issues in detail with your health care professional.
