My wife loves it when I cook for her. She even loves it more when I surprise her. One of the greatest surprises I ever planned was the time that I cooked Alaskan king crab legs for her. I also cooked a whole spread! I had peel and eat shrimp, twice baked potatos, but most of all, I had Alaskan king crab legs for us to eat. It was quite a meal. Since then, it has become a tradition for us to eat king crab legs for our New Year's Eve dinner. Since we have grown a little older, it is no longer necessary for us to stay up all night partying just because it is New Year's Eve. But I do like to celebrate with a special meal, and Alaskan king crab legs can make any meal special. New Year's Eve is when I make my lady feel special and show her that I appreciate all of the things that she does for me all year long.

Before I discuss the food I would like to discuss how I prepare the house. I need to begin by setting the table with our finest China, making sure that all of the glasses are spot free and the silverware is free of smudges. then I need to find the perfect candles because all of my perfect meals are candlelit.

Here is how I prepare the king crab legs. I like to use 1.5 pounds of crab for each person I am serving.

  • Pour a little water into the bottom of a steamer pot. Turn the heat on your stove to high and bring the water to a boil.
  • Place your legs into the pot and then place the cover on your pot.
  • When I cook crab legs, I will stand by the pot when it is steaming and wait until I smell the crab.
  • Once it begins to smell, I will pull the legs out and cut into them with scissors. If the meat falls apart, it is ready.

Before you serve the king crab, you need to melt a stick of butter for each person served. Give each person his or her own bowl full of melted butter.

Once you have served the legs, begin cutting the "armour" with a pair of scissors. Once you have made the first cut you can continue the cut with a fork. Cut the hard shell and then take the meat out. Dip the meat in the melted butter and then pop it into your mouth.

If the crab has been cooked to perfection, meaning that it is cooked through, but not overcooked, it will melt in your mouth.

Although the king crab is the centerpiece of my New Year's Eve dinner, it is certainly not the only part of it. The meal begins with some extra large peel and eat shrimp served with cocktail sauce. Then a spinach salad is served. Then for the main couse, steamed king crab and twice baked potatoes.

After dinner, it is time for the pie. I like to serve French silk pie. I make sure that the pie I serve has plenty of cholcolate shavings on it. It is the perfect topping to the perfect pie.

On a final note, if you really want to make this an unforgettable meal for your wife, make sure that clean up after yourself and leave the kitchen spotless. Do not forget this step. Forgetting to clean up after yourself can ruin everything else you have done.

New Year's Eve is a perfect excuse to pamper your lady. She deserves it. So instead of going out and once again spending too much money drinking and partying, you might consider staying home and making her the dinner I have just described.
