No only is Butter Cream Frosting the most delicious topping for your homemade cake but it might also be the easiest and convenient frosting recipe to use. Why? Because you most likely already have the ingredients you need as a pantry staple! With just a few ingredients, and a few minutes, you will have the most delicious Butter-Cream Frosting ever!
Things You Will Need1/2 c. butter (1 stick)
4 c. Powdered Sugar
2 tsp. Vanilla
1 tbsp. Milk
*Stand mixer makes things easier but you can absolutely do it the old fashioned way!
Step 1Cream butter in bowl by mixing it quickly until it becomes light in color and soft to the texture. Sometimes softening butter in the microwave first for just a few seconds is a good idea if it has been in the fridge because it will cream easier. But if you know ahead of time that you will be baking it is a good idea to take out all of your ingredients so that they become the same temperature which creates even baking.
Step 2While the mixer is still on (or still mixing by hand) slowly add the powdered sugar to the creamed butter.
Step 3Once all the powdered sugar is incorporated into the creamed butter add the vanilla. *If your frosting gets lumpy or too watery go slower and add more powdered sugar. Sometimes this will happen and the easy solution is to stop (if it is lumpy) and use your hands to create a tight ball with the mixture. Then proceed to mixing in more sugar.
Step 4Finally, is the consistency of your butter-cream is where you would like it you are most likely done, but sometimes adding the remaining 1 tbsp of milk is helpful to get it the texture you want.
After you have made the butter-cream it can easily be piped through a piping bag to decorate any sweet treat that you would like! Even just on top of a yummy graham cracker!
